robertspark
at the end of the day it's not really going to stop those auctions with a buy it now price and someone actually wanting the various items as they will just buy it when it comes up, but reporting the stuff via the ebay report function if enough think that it's not a good idea will get the auction pulled and hopefully it won't be up for long enough to either buy it now (if you were really in the market) or to stop incremental bidding on something clearly not correct to maybe the unwary who ends up with a whole heap of trouble and new to the marque? just saying the obvious some of us have out automatic ebay searches that send us links daily in what we're interested in, and provided the auctions are gone in the day then the automatic search functions won't be any good either.... (doesn't stop you searching 4 times day though and buying the first buy in now that comes up).

ejparrott
I saw the first 2 and decided there wasn't anything illegal about them. The first only seems to be plates and he does state 'collector', the second as much as we may suspect it doesn't include the imortal words 'bring a bucket'! The third I hadn't seen, and I can't see anything illegal in the add BUT, you can guarantee if you messaged him like he says, he'd offer to send just the plates in the post....after all...12 free pictures you know...... ejparrott
All valid, but eBay won't remove the add for any of them because the wording isn't against the rules
ballcock
All valid, but eBay won't remove the add for any of them because the wording isn't against the rules There lies the problem. We all might see the insinuation within the add but it does not fall foul of their listing practises. That was the reason I was reporting under the listing of encouraging illegal activity. There are many adds that are placed that could be considered dubious but are not specifically breaking any rules. Many of the rolling chassis projects out there may not hold eight points for DVLA but are a good start for a rebuild of an existing vehicle. It is the number of ID's for ringers that are the real concern which we should be targeting. Those that are unaware of the law would hopefully remove the add once informed, but the majority know full well the implications of selling ID's for older vehicles that are harder to disprove ownership once stolen and sold to unsuspecting punters. How far do you go with this? If some one is selling a reasonably complete early series vehicle in need of complete restoration but has a valid ID could this also be considered a risk, Buy the vehicle, steal a replacement, sell the original as spares at Newbury? A scenario which has probably done many times.

ballcock
Our man has listed the 2A chassis again and he seems to be upset with you again Mr B I had noticed, I was looking to see if I could report him for insulting me in his listing. I also thought about bidding on a wheel nut, He has listed the chassis in the advert then states the add is for a wheel nut but there appears no reason to report that as a false description. Unless some one knows better.
CwazyWabbit
Would be a shame to report it under http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/listing-no-item.html Listings that tell people to contact the seller for info, including buying the item outside of eBay (see also our policy about avoiding eBay fees.) The gratuitous comment option also fits.

ballcock
just buy the wheel nut, costs him a listing fee! Some body has bid on it, should start a bidding war then claim it doesn't match the description at the close of auction.

What's the betting that if you ran the numbers on the complete vehicle that it would come up as taxed insured etc - from what the listing says I'd be amazed if the id hasn't been ringed onto another vehicle

supaimpy
reported to ACVIS- H reg plates reply NaVCIS will be forwarding the information to DVLA to enable them to undertake the relevant enquiries and also to amend their records. Ebay unfortunately have not engaged with regards to the potential criminality involved in the selling of vehicle components on their site. All we can do is continue to inform Home Office of such matters in the hope that they can bring power to bear upon them. Well I reckon its time for direct contact with the Home office, I've tried the minster who is responsible for DVLA, Claire Perry who just refered it to the DVLA, waiting for my MP to respond. Next target is Ebay and not simply via the report function, now it would be great to get one of the TV investigators interested in the story, its not just Landies wheres the modern day Roger Cook when you want him

There's plenty of escorts, minis, capris, hillmans etc but only the one Rover.
sean f
reading alright until I saw this bit, as a trader he should know better, someone will end up with a lot of problems.. Surely if you bought it then read off the chassis number and applied for the reg then subject to an identity check and enòugh other points you would get the existing number which would leave him a lot of questions to answer if he tried to put it on another vehicle. Each time I have replaced the chassis on a vehicle I make a point of chopping up the old chassis and photographing it in bit to prevent this type of problem.
