Anderzander
Excuse my ignorance ..... I have a replacement bell housing cross-member to replace the rotten one ok my series. Do I ensure it goes back in the right place just by scribing lines to locate it ? ... When I cut the old one out and grind it back flush I presume some lines across the top of the chassis rails will adequately locate it front to rear ? And lines scribed on the inside of the chassis will locate it's height ok ?
ejparrott
Lines are good, but better still follow up the lines with some centre pops. Lines can get lost with the grinding and cleaning up, pops re much harder to loose
Anderzander
Great - thank you. Obvious now you've said it - but losing the scribes was exactly my concern.
secondjeremy
Be careful the thing doesn't creep upwards. I was under a S2a with a chassis that has been entusiastically welded (superficially looks wonderful) and I can just about get a piece of paper between the clutch housing and the crossmember. Anderzander
Thanks - good tip. Perhaps I can tack it into position with the bellhousing in situ, so it acts as another datum.
