Nigelw
Whilst faffing around in the engine bay the other night I noticed it was rather oily around the engine in general, but especially round the joint of the head to the block and the rocker cover. Seems to be rather common too, but is there any point chasing it further than a new rocker cover gasket? I read up a little and it seems that the 200Tdi has a reputation for leaking oil, are they really that bad or just lazy owners not replacing seals and gaskets in time? reb78
Rocker cover gasket and the half moon seals at each end of the rocker cover can cause high leaks like this. My half moons we're at fault. Did them and I have a dry engine now apart from a faint leak around the vacuum pump.
Maverik
As Rich says, most of the oil leaks from the rocker cover then leaches down the engine and makes the whole thing look rough, nothing a good clean with some gunk and pressure wash can't solve, also get some leeks from the crank case mist pipe of that cracks near the bottom... I don't think they're any better or worse than the other LR engines.
