Oakmaster
Wheels, Rims, Steel, and Alloy I’ve understood that if you want to use alloy rims you have to have the correct studs (and nuts) But what happens if you want to use steel rims on a vehicle that came with alloys? – do I just use std steel wheel nuts? (is this a really dumb question?)
Mo Murphy
Yes, use steel wheel nuts Mo
rrr47
And their as cheap as chips. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DEFENDER-DISCOVERY-STEEL-WHEEL-NUTS-PACK-OF-20-RRD500010-/370996447482?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Car+Make%3ALand+Rover&hash=item56611c88fa
Litch
Slightly misled, the studs are the same but yes the nuts are different. Doesn't matter what the vehicle was fitted with originally, as long as the correct nuts are used then all will be ok (and the wheels are compatible with the hubs of course). Some folk have experienced the short stud issue when fitting HD Wolfe steel wheels, standard steels are fine, and most aftermarket steels are similar thickness.
