discomikey
can you get someone to stick their head under the bonnet while you rev it? it's definately exhaust related IMO, no signs of soot anywhere?
dave1607
I'ts a bit difficult to hear but last time I had a noise like that it was my alternator bearings. I ran the engine very briefly with the belt off to see if it went away. Dave
dirtyninety
Ive confirmed its the turbo to manifold gasket, its even louder now... new genuine gasket should be here today, lets hope I've no warped my turbo! I was towing a challenge truck on my trailer, laiden with tools and spares on the way back from Kirton. I was doing 35mph up Cromford Hill (mikey should know that how steep and long that hill is) and i think it might have got a bit hot. Id have gone faster if there wasnt a golf infront of me holding me up! God damn you stage 2 alive remap making the engine too powerful for its own good!! Turbo flanges don't tend to warp like manifold faces do so you should be alright
dirtyninety
I had spoken to Ian at IRB, he told me that on TDCI's generally the turbo face warps before the manifold. HOWEVER GOOD NEWS!!! I was just about to give the studs a bit of WD40 before i strip the turbo off later... ALL THREE nuts on turbo flange had come loose!! 13mm spanner, 13mm socket , extension and ratchet, all mended in about 2 mins. Now... did the come loose, or have they stretched due to getting incredibly hot?
Happyoldgit
I've read of other experiencing loose nuts and discussing using better means of locking them to stop it happening again.
