deep
That looks like a serious undertaking. Very tidy. I am intrigued by your front differential. What's going on there?
Guest
Nice build, is the six speed a direct fit or did you need an adaptor plate? Oh and welcome... Jason
CwazyWabbit
So have you taken a crashed Puma and you are retrofitting a 300 TDI into it? How will you get it through the emissions test? Or is this a 300 TDI vehicle that is having dash/gearbox/bulkhead/axles from a Puma fitted? Actually it has windscreen hinges so I'm guessing it's an earlier vehicle than a 300 Definitely going to be a forever vehicle with all that galv .... 110dan300tdi
Hi the front differential is a 24spline rover Diff with ashlocker, the 6speed uses an adapter and the puma flywheel and clutch, which is a good move in my opinion as it has a far higher tourque rating than the 300tdi one. Cwazy wabbit, it is a new 300tdi chassis, i decided upon using a puma rear axle case as I prefer to be able to pull the diff as a unit albeit weaker I have an ashlocker for it also and will possibly fit a heavy duty ring and pinion and have it pegged which should result in a fair diff, bulkhead wise it's puma I personally like the puma dash and I have a heater that works alongside my night heater I should have a warm defender I purchased a new take off puma double cab tub from foley's simply beacuse it would save me a ton of work sorting the other one and with it being double cab it has a bulkhead so I can make a nice partition for the rear of the vehicle. Also with it being a puma tub it will accept directly puma second row seats this was a must for me to have my kids in proper seats, I fitted the folding type screen hinges as I am going for a retro look I also have split csw front and second row doors to go on. All in all I want the look of early 110 but it be more usable with the tdi and other bits. Dan

miketomcat
The newest bit on mine is the 200tdi otherwise yours sounds like it will look like mine only newer, shinier, dryer, more comfortable and quieter. So not really like mine at all really. Mike
muddychris300tdi
Very tidy build. Can I ask why you have gone with the six speed? I had a quick look at doing it for the 6th gear but went for the V8 fifth gear in my R380 as its actually higher ratio.
Soren Frimodt
Wow, nice build! Keep'em coming! Should definitely be great with the 6 speed for the narrow powerband in the 300, I would love an extra gear in my Disco
110dan300tdi
The reason I went for the 6speed is it because it has a slightly higher top than the 380 obviously. And it tied in with the dash conversion nicely, also the stronger clutch is a added bonus. I'm hoping it will have a slightly broader powerband with the VNT and 2.8 injector pump. I don't know anyone who has fitted the 2.8 pump but it runs higher pressure so it should give a cleaner burn in turn being able to adjust the pump up abit dependant on what the EGT has to say about that. Daan
Very tidy. Did you galvanize the axle casings? I have one advice to you: get a higher garage door, If you want to keep hold of it! Daan
CwazyWabbit
The front panel with the 110 sticker and the starting handle hole is a nice touch
Diesel_90
Lovely build. Modern and reliable with the 300tdi! The R380 v8 fifth gear is actually higher than the puma 6speed 6th gear. From what I remember first is lower and they are all closer in the puma (MT85)

d-9
So have you taken a crashed Puma and you are retrofitting a 300 TDI into it? How will you get it through the emissions test? MOT emissions test is done on the elder of the engine and the vehicle, so if you fitted a 1980 engine into a 2015 vehicle, it would go through the 1980 emissions test. Similarly, if you fitted a 2015 engine into a 1980 vehicle, you would still go through the 1980 emissions test. The onus is on the presenter to prove age, however. So putting a 300tdi in a puma would let you go through the 300tdi emissions test, not the puma test, provided you could prove the age of the engine. The biggest advantage to the 6 speed is the lower first gear for off road use.
discomikey
The 6 speed it a great gearbox for towing with, when 5th is that little too high for a long steep hill pull, 5th is perfect, otherwise you would be revving loads in 4th. The lower first gear is also better for a fully loaded trailer!

ejparrott
I also kinda like the Puma dash. Galvanized B and C posts I see...been thinking of that myself
110dan300tdi
The ratios should be well suited to the 300tdi on a heavy expedition build especially the low first. Yes most of the steel work has been galvanised, yes it is a black sheep crossmember. Dan
