muddychris300tdi
Right then folks, as I've just fitted my new gearbox and found my transfer box needs swapping as well I'm trying to work out the ratios. So here are the facts. 300tdi, New R380 with v8 fifth gear, Lt230 serial number showing it's a 1.4, Running 265 75 16 tyres, At GPS speed of 65mph the rev gauge of accurate shows 3500rpm, (engine sounds like it's about right). If tried to use the Ashcroft ratio calculator but it doesn't seem to work out right. So can can I rev gauge so incorrect revs? How can I go about seeing what ratio internals are in my R-box has got in it? Is there anyone close to Derby with a 300tdi defender that could take me out for a spin and vice versa. Thank you muchly for any help.
CwazyWabbit
I have a VDO rev gauge on my 300TDI and I did quite a bit of testing of it when I fitted it and they are only approximate. You could try one of those optical tachometers from eBay to see how accurate your gauge actually is. Something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252147885959
Peaklander
Is there anyone close to Derby with a 300tdi defender that could take me out for a spin and vice versa. I'm in the Hope Valley (so not exactly close but not too far either). I have a 110 CSW 300TDi with R380 and LT230. Everything normal as far as I know :-)
tacr2man
with the set up you have if 3.54 diffs the revs should be 2500rpm , maybe your ear needs recalibrating so 3500 sounds like 3500 which is quite busy in a 300tdi !
muddychris300tdi
You might be right, I am coming from a 300tdi with 33's on the tootles along nicely.
