Disco-Ron
As above, toying with doing it but unsure.... would rather not spend£200 to then spend another 600getting a rebuilt one..... Ta
vulcan bomber
I've built one out of 2 bad ones in the past to get the brother in law out of the quagmire and it's easy enough with a bit of patience. The info from the WSM is freely available so I would suggest a few thorough reads through that, then make your mind up.
Boydie
I've just done mine fitting an Ashcroft ATB differential. Read my thread on my removal, overhaul and re-install to give you some idea of what you will be up for, if you have a half decent workshop/shed, a hydraulic press and a set of hydraulic pullers you can manage it quite easily. Choose your bearings wisely, I went for Timken all through with genuine LR oil seals, spacers etc. Hardest part was getting it back onto the R380 without messing up the input oil seal. Use the long studs!
Disco-Ron
I have swapped it before so not worried about that element. ... I don't have pullers...... and the shimming is my biggest concern. ... just don't want to get it wrong. .... have read the manual though and just can't decide. ..... ejparrott
Gearbox work is not hard if you just follow what's in the WSM

tuko
I recently installed the 1.003 ratio kit from Dave, if you do as everyone else has mentioned about the WSM, you'll do fine. ;-) Todd.
Scotts90
Yes, I rebuilt mine, fitted the HD cross pin in the diff along with new gears and thrust washers as well as a cross drilled input shaft. Relatively straight forward although I did read the manual a few times. Also handy to have access to a dial type torque wrench for the crush bearing as a standard click ones won't do. I bought the master rebuild kit iirc, it's done a good few thousand miles with no issues
