sweeney110
Does anyone know where it's possible to buy the resistor and harness for the heater matrix? I know the one I have is shot. The rest of the system seems fine so I don't want to buy the whole unit if I don't have to. Thanks in advance Connor
ejparrott
You might be better off buying the fan speed improvement kit which I think deletes the OEM resistor. I've got one here, but it's to work with a defender heater in a Series 3, so the wiring's completely different and the colours don't match up to the instructions! Ex Member
Have a look here, item 4. Three options depending on which heater you have. http://www.allbrit.de/UNI.cfm?PAGE=760932&SPRACHE=EN None of them cheap!! http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/land-rover-parts/utp1904-wiring-assy-he.html http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/land-rover-defender/defender-90-and-110/parts/cooling-and-heating/utp1281-wiring-harness-and-resistor-for-heater-90110-r-h-d.html http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/land-rover-parts/jgk100170-wiring-assy-he.html
pete3000
Adapt something like this? http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/heater-resistor-britpart-da4178resistor-p-7373.html or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2X-100W-Metal-Aluminum-Case-Wire-wound-Power-Resistor-1R-2R-4R-8R-10R-Ohm-/400899083687?var=&hash=item5d57728da7:m:mUqgUd381ie1z6LscL-IVeQ should only need a 1 or 2 ohm power resistor in series with the fan. (must be in the airflow before the matrix to cool the resistor)
western
get hold of simonb on here, he should be able to sort one of his heater fan kits for you, got one on my 110's heater it works very well.
sweeney110
Thanks all. I'll try to get it sorted for the weekend. -3℃ with us the night before last. High time it was working again.

PM me if you want one, forum discount applies. I'll be listing them on eblag again at the wknd.
daveturnbull
Can you give some more details on your kit please Simon. My heater fan is also rather pants, even on flat out.
simonb
PM me for details, but if its rubbish on fast speed, then it sounds like your motor needs and overhaul. The bearings dry out. I think (its a while since I've had one apart) but the brushes are the same as the wiper motor.
ejparrott
Motor takes 12v direct on full speed, so it should be pretty bloody good - better than a series one on full chat!
Disco-Ron
Mine only works on the slower speed. ... what's potentially the issue? ?.....
pete3000
the switch? one of the spades fell off? if it's working on slow speed the motor and supply are ok, as well as the resistor.
Disco-Ron
Both connectors are intact. ... so probably the switch itself I guess. ... ta
L19MUD
Mine is not working at all. Admittedly have not checked anything yet It is likely to be the resistor?
Bowie69
Not if it doesn't work on full speed, the resistor will be bypassed.
pete3000
the newer 3 way fan connector type, (econoseal)? from vwp) can rot out. inspect the plug socket next tothe fan under the bonnet. pull both halves and check the pins for corrosion, or even if they are still there. mickeyw
I replaced my blower resistor with a 50w aluminium cased power resistor from RS Components. It cost less than £3 inc vat. There was nothing wrong with my blower, other than I wanted to increase the slow speed slightly. I don't recall what R the new resistor was, but it now means that slow speed will keep the screen clear on damp days.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but that ally resistor, did you use a heatsink with it? I was going to fit one but the spec says they need a heatsink. Bowie69
I may be being stupid, but that has a heatsink on it already.
blowmeover
That's just the casing, the spec sheet on RS says they have to be used with a separate heat sink, if not they don't perform to spec,
blowmeover
Perhaps not all need a heatsink and could be chassis mount but the ones I've been looking at do. https://uk.rs-online.com/mobile/p/panel-mount-fixed-resistors/0157550/?fbclid=IwAR2QT1Lr0I9CQJZNk_6aJrHg4-8bAqTx7pTxArrItIWfNbRVDq9zgqxlEUc
Ex Member
Just google heater resistor. There are tons of generic ones. Pretty much every car in the world has one.
western
I have one of simonB's resistor kits on my 110, its redundant now after fitting one of these kits https://shop.landreiziger.nl/elektronische-ventilator-aansturing.html I'm more than happy to remove it & sell. this kit doesn't need a heatsink the resistor is screwed to the bulkhead
mickeyw
How hot they get depends on how much power is being drawn. In any case this resistor sits in the air intake duct, so has a good flow of cooling air blown across it. It doesn't need anything more.
