garrycol
I have my 4.0 engine up side down and was about to put the sump back on and then spotted this hole and bolt holes on the bottom of the block casting. It is on the opposite side to the dip stick. The hole is connected to a "tube" inside the block casting that runs forward to the oli pump area. The bolt holes indicate there should be something there but I have no idea what. My 4.0/4.6 engine build manual does not show anything. So before I put the sump back on - is there anything that is supposed to be bolted to this position. Garry
need4speed
That's where the oil pick up pipe bolts to on older v8 engines. Don't know if a cover should be there to blank it, but can't see that it would do any harm if you left it as is...

FridgeFreezer
I think if you chase it through it would actually work with the early-type front cover and pick-up, as it is it's just a spare hole in the block!
