russellc
I've removed gearbox, clutch, flywheel, flywheel housing and the lower crankshaft oil seal retainer. The top oil seal retainer won't budge. Is there a trick to this? Something I'm not seeing perhaps? Any tips regarding the use of silicone sealant in this area would also be appreciated. Cheers, Russell
daslandroverman
You've not really picked the best way to do the job and have it all seal when it's reassembled. It's enough of a pain when the engine is out and sitting on its nose. From what I remember, with the bolts out of the top retainer, a little percussive motion with a soft hammer should see it start moving. Proper cork T seals for the rear main bearing cap are a good idea too.
russellc
It's a pain alright and the top retainer seems to be stuck solid. Regarding the cork T seals, I spoke to a mechanic who said he doesn't use them. Instead he cleans up the area a squirts in silicone sealant until it comes out the other end.
