fearofweapons
Hello, I am about to start replacing my bulkhead ( well in about a month ) with a galvanized one. While I have a list of seals to buy I was wondering what other bits people have replaced at the same time? For example replace the door hinge bolts with stainless steel. Many thanks for any help. regards, Richard
gruntus
Hi Richard, Some pointers in an old post of mine. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=38064&hl=%2Bgalvanised+%2Bbulkhead Cheers G
ejparrott
Depends what youre starting with, would help to know what the vehicle was. If you haven't already got one, fit a 300TDi clutch pedal assembly with spring assist. Replace the clutch pipes across the bulkhead. Full complement of soundproofing. fearofweapons
Hello, I am starting from a 1989 110 with 200Tdi and LT77 gear box. The sound proofing idea 'sounds' good. Why replace the clutch pipes? Just because they will be old and it's easier to do while things are in bits?My wings are going to have to come off ( I think ) so are there bits e.g. RTC3744 that I should just go out and buy now knowing that the old ones will be broken / seized when I remove them? What other bits did people end up having to get?Gruntus - I had not seen your post - thanks for that.regards, Richard
reb78
Can we turn this into a part number list as well. I am about to do mine (same vintage as yours), so it would be pretty helpful (for me and others i guess) and a useful addition to the tech archive if we can come up with a parts list. Frax
Covered my new bulkhead with fatmat, good stuff and easy to apply.
Diablo
From memory, I had to replace the following, during my rebuild: door bolts (half of them sheared J nuts for the door bolts Selection of the plastic bits that the self tappers screw into (to hold various parts of the dash assembly on) New heater to bulkhead seal (mine was completely rotten) New windscreen seal Vent seals - I tidied mine up and reglued them, although new ones may have been better Bonnet hinge bushes Mine's a 1985

Arjan
Hmm - interesting read. "fatmat" does not ship to Europe : where did you get it from ?
Frax
I got it from the bay when I did my rebuild 5 years ago, its good stuff - just cut to size and warm with a hair drier and stick on. I covered the bulkhead + foot wells & seat box and the under side of the foot plates. After 5 years the stuff is still stuck tight even to the underside of the foot plates which is open to the weather. I also fitted it to the inside of the doors behind the door cards, it does help cut down rattles and is also a good insulator.
fearofweapons
Hello Frax, can you recall what type ( thickness ) of FatMat you used and how much?I have 20sq ft of FatMat Xtreme (51mm thick ) for <>£73 on ebay. I'm not sure 20 sq ft would be enough? It sounds like it ought to be but you never know. Regarding a parts list below is what I have got so far. This has not come out as a table - I'll explore how to tidy this up and make it more readable. basically its description, part number, chassis delimiter, blank line, parts manual page number, blank line, estimated quantity. Frax
Hi again - the Fatmat I used was only about 1.3mm thick, I would think that any thicker would be a right pain to fit. I would think 20sq ft would be more than enough to do the bulkhead and you should have some left over. It is easy to cut and bend when warm. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-sq-ft-FATMAT-XTREME-Car-Sound-Heat-Noise-Proofing-Deadening-Dynamat-Rlr-Avl-/290643812702?hash=item43abb8a15e:m:mAEmNzd_t18IL3Ck0gl6-ow
