LR 90 v8 fuel filter housing issue

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I've a 1986 90 that had a v8 retrofitted. IT has the plate on the chassis near the rear wheel with the electric fuel pump and filter housing mounted. I've purchased 2 different filter houses and the pipe that connects it to the pump. The pipe will fit the pump, but the other end won't fit either of the filter housings!! The threads seems to be different as if one is imperial and one metric.

I've checked and double checked and both parts are correct as per the parts book (hence I bought the second filter housing in case the first one was just duff). But I can't see any other parts that would fit. Part numbers in question were nrc9786 and nrc7930.

All help appreciated.

Thanks

Alan

The original petrol system on the early vehicles was all imperial, UNF I think. If you can find an imperial/metric male/female adaptor in something like the Goodridge catalogue or at a local branch of Pirtek, you could fit the imperaial end of the adaptor into the filter housing then the metric thread on the hose into the other end of the adaptor. I have always found Pirtek to be very knowledgeable and helpful

Thanks Neil110. I was thinking the same but the connecting pipe is rigid and curved so I think if I use an adaptor at one end then the other end won't mate up correctly. Or maybe i could use a spacer of some sort on the pump to move it out a few millimetres......

Ah, sorry with you now. I wasn't paying proper attention earlier.

I have an early 110 with a V8 in it, as with yours I have a chassis mounted pump and filter. That rigid pipe can be a trial getting it to fit when everything is in situ and firmly mounted. I think I fitted the pipe loosely to the filter head before fitting the unit to the mounting bracket (then had the fight with the fuel pump) when I changed mine back from Diesel

The part Nos you have quoted are correct by the book but I wonder if at some stage during manufacture metric fittings were substituted for the original imperial?

It has been so long since I last had mine apart I cannot remember whether that pipe has olives fitted or whether the ends of the pipe are formed,

If it has olives it ought to be possible to slide the olives off and replace the brass fittings with imperial.

If the latter possibly a local diesel specialist place could make you up a new pipe with imperial fittings, they would probably have the necessary tooling to swage the pipe ends
