SRS ecu - do i have to take the heater matrix out?

Our Freelander 1 TD4 has had an intermittent SRS light on the dash for a while. I've tried the usual under seat plugs but it had no effect.

I'd like to pull the plugs on the SRS ecu and clean/reseat them. The haynes book of words suggests that i have to remove the heater matrix to get to the SRS ecu. :o Anyone have a method to getting to the SRS ecu that doesn't invlove the plumbing?

I've pondered buying an icarsoft i930 to read the codes too - anyone had any experience of one of these and SRS?
