stephencdavies
Just a query on the fuel return on my Defender 90 200 TDI van. i've pretty much rebuilt everything and its cost me a damn fortune. Some time back after i had rebuild the engine, gearbox ect i connected up the fuel and started it up. it started first time but after a while she died. dreaded diesel bug... anyway after goodness know how amny clear outs and filter changes i got it running again. she starts first time, every time but while i was test running into a jerry can i noticed a fierce amount of fuel returnon tick over. SO the big question IS. is this normal, does the 200TDI return loads of fuel verses how much it has used. do i need to be concerned or is it JUST a Land Rover. miketomcat
When running on our front tank it will transfer all 45ltrs to the rear tank via the return in about 10 miles. So yes it's normal. Mike
LandyManLuke
I agree, normal. When the lift pump died I got home using jerry cans strapped to the bonnet. The fuel gauge was going up as I drove.
Snagger
Yep, normal at low power settings, and worst on the over-run.
stephencdavies
Thanks guys. this is really helpful. nothing to worry about then. all i need to do now for its MOT is new tyres and a new power steering box. my steering box leaks like a sieve. ( its the old 6 bolt type )
Lewis
You can replace the six bolt type with the better four bolt type without any mods. Do yourself a favour and convert to disco drop arm at the same time
stephencdavies
I was thinking of doing that. i've been in touch with a company that does recons. i'm hoping that they take a couple of 6 bolts and throw in a drop arm.
Snagger
And do not buy a typical recon box, only Adwest recon (the original manufacturer) - the rest are just cleaned and painted with new seals and fail in months.
