Defender Wings

Recommended Posts

Hi All.Started to do a major diy job on my 1988 90" ht.Have already done a 2" spacer lift and in the process of all bush renewal, but would like to take off the wings to do some other work.I have taken a look at the inners and outers of the wings and was wondering is there a simple process or procedure to take the wings off apart from an angle grinder(I have no problem with plenty wd40 and hard labour).I just need a step by step by guide of where to start. Thanks Herman.

Remove the flexible arch ------ use a pin punch & hammer to knock out the centre pins of the plastic rivets, then prise out the rivets, undo any bolts/nuts,

remove metal outer panel ----- IIRC you need 10mm sockets & oper end/ring end spanners, find remove all the bolts/nuts you can find, along the top, front & rear edge to bulkhead.

remove wingtop & front lights panels ----- remove all the bolts/nuts at the bottom front to chassis, at rear edge to bulkhead.

that should have the metal bits off the vehicle, electrical bitsdisconnect as you go.

A little OT - sorry... oooh! oooh! and wrong forum - double sorry :) , but just taken the rear wing off my RRC and appart from the top (cross-head) screws the tally is thus:

2 bolts sheared off

1 bolt ground off

1 rivet drilled out

ALL the rest of the fasteners just pulled through the corrosion! Who needs spanners?
