TD5 2004 brake pipe corrosion - Replacement set

Recommended Posts

Fleebay have plenty of full vehicle kits, they're usually decent components but not cheap... when I replaced mine I weighed up all the options and just went and bought some pipe, fittings and a flaring tool and did it myself. a fair but cheaper, and the tools alone have paid them selves over 100 times due to the amount I've used it on other projects and mates trucks.

As for kits, I think these will probably do you...

Will they be alright for a 110 crew cab? Sorry should have specified.

This one looks to be for a 110.

The body type shouldn't have an effect on the pipework.

This is assuming its not ABS.

Might even be worth calling Automec the kit manufacturers.

I'm with Maverik on this, the suggestion of buying a roll of pipe and doing it yourself. My experience of the ready made kits is that they don't seem to be exactly right. The last one I used was on a friends E- Type jag and we ended up altering several bits.

The Automec specs in one of those ads say copper or copper / nickel, you need to know, the plain copper is fine for road cars but is too soft for an off roader.Sticks etc, getting flicked up under the car when off roading will soon wreck copper pipes, copper nickel is far better in this respect. I'd also spend a little more and use stainless steel fittings as the brass ones are very easy to round off when they are in tight situations, bearing in mind you are using open end or flare nut spanners at best.

Bit of an odd reply:

"Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately we do not have the specifications for your vehicle yet. However, we would like to be able to help you and would value your assistance in adding this model to our list of brake pipe sets. If you still have the original pipes on your vehicle and you are able to supply the specifications, we will need to know the locations, lengths and type & thread of the fittings required for each pipe in the system. We can offer you the complete set of brake pipes for a special price of £45 plus postage and VAT in exchange for the information. The average price of a brake pipe set is normally over £120.

If you do not require the complete set, we are happy to supply any individual pipes to your pattern.

Kind regards"
