Discovery 2 TD5 Lynx

Just bought this, Got the unlock code, connected up seems to communicate fine, however 2 problems. I wanted to try some simple programming so I tried to switch OFF the courtesy headlights, the lynx shows 2 options and it changes them on the laptop but it won't do it for real, when I come out and go back in it has reverted back to the original settings. button 5 is suppose to change the option and or send the command What am I doing wrong ?

Problem 2 The direction indicator switch works fine and energises the relays which in turn flashes the indicators however the software doesn't see the LH switch change, RH switch is reported OK. strange! , both switches feed directly into the BCU.

Don't you have a final option at the end of the menu after you made the change in the BCU for courtesy lights which asks you to confirm the changes from factory settings?... i dont have lynx but that's how hawkeye works and they are on the same protocol, so after you made any change in the BCU scroll untill the end of all the settings and see if there is a confirmation request or not

Hi,

I will have a closer look, but this is a copy of info received from Omitech support.

"a BCU Module can only be programmed when it is unlocked

a locked unit can't be programmed

the unit is locked from factory

the Lynx won't open a locked unit"

So does this mean I can't make any changes

Not too happy about the Lynx

That's boll*x m8, a "locked" BCU means immobilised so no communication with any tester whatsoever before it's unlocked with EKA, as long as your vehicle cranks and starts it's not the case.... unfortunately those guys are like LR "engineers" at main dealers...they dont have a clue

The button that's supposed to confirm the changes is the same button that toggles the option (according to the user guide). This is what I'm doing - Go into security module / go to special functions/ use the scroll up down buttons/ go to (for eg) option 13 of 33 which is courtesy headlights on or off / then I press this button (5) which has a tick logo on it / this button toggles the option (13) headlights on or headlights off / But the guide says to use this button (5) to confirm the selection, and that's what I can't understand as it only toggles the selection. I can't at the moment see any other way to confirm. If I set the option to say OFF (was originally on) and exit the lynx it doesn't write the new setting to the BCU and reverts back to on. The lynx is certainly reading from the BCU as I can see switch inputs changing but saying that, both LH and RH direction indicator switches wire directly to the BCU but it only reports the LH as changing, yet the indicators work fine on the vehicle. I agree with what you said about the unit not been locked as that was my understanding until Omitech confused the issue.

Unfortunately i dont have it i've just seen it in action at a friend some time ago but i know for sure it's on the same protocol like hawkeye which i have and it asks for a confirmation on exit for changing the settings, after you made the change dont exit directly just jump to the next option(iirc odometer error warning) if it's disabled let it so then scroll through all the other options untill the end then exit..... dont you get a confirmation request then?

Hi,

Well I did as you suggested and sure enough when I got to item 33 of 33 up pops a confirm yes or no box, why on earth is this not in the user manual and more worrying that Omitech them selves not advise on this. I think you are right in what you said. I wonder how much these tech support people get paid to sent out duff info. I am tempted to email them back and let them know what I think.

I didn't write the changed option as I have read it is wise to make a note of all the other settings before doing so, whether this can be done by saving a backup file I'm not sure as once again it not mentioned in the user manual.

Any idea why just one of the direction indicator switches doesn't change state even though they both work correctly

Thanks

I dunno, maybe they wanted to be sure that you are aware of all the settings before you change something by scrolling through all of them, at least you know how it works now :i-m_so_happy: ... on the other side don't be dissapointed cos it's a good diagnostic tool just that you'll have to find out more on your own how to use it. ^_^

I know it won't really help you Brianc14, but I think I can help you to understand why you are in your current situation. Britpart have just done a deal with Omitec to supply these units, they know little or nothing about them, its just another product to sell.

Omitec stopped development of the Testbook 4 software back in 2005 when LR was sold to Ford and diagnostic tools were handed over to SPX tools LTD,who I seem to remember were something to do with Snap On. So Testbook finished and IDS then SDD took over. Many of the clever folk at Omitec either retired or left,so now in 2016 you would be unlikely to find anyone there who really knows their stuff on a product that old. Even back then their help desk was only used to dealing with main dealer tech's who had been trained by LR to use Testbook - not private individuals with little or no training or experience with their product. What Britpart ought to do is to set up a user forum like Nanocom or Autologic have. Testbook was/is a VERY good tool, mine is still working well and in good use at 13 years old...

I have a nanocom the original ,,
Anyhow bit the bullet and brought the flashy new evo 2 ,,

I like the original better ,,

I would like to know more about the lynx unit ,, i really don't like the BBS support team There attitude is "we are the best do what we say "

Very arrogant in my opinion so would like to move to another platform ,
cheers Fery ,,
