BarnacleBill Posted November 6, 2016 Share Posted November 6, 2016 Hi, I've recently bought a 1998 Discovery 300tdi automatic with EDC. The starter really struggles to crank the engine over for the first couple of turns, then, most of the time, but not always, it accelerates and starts the engine. This happens all the time, whether the engine is hot or cold. The dealer I bought it from has checked the alternator, battery connection, and earth straps. I've changed the battery for a bigger one of 1000 cold cranking amps. All to no avail. It seems to have had a new starter motor fitted in 2010. HELLLPPPP!!!!!!!! BogMonster Posted November 6, 2016 Share Posted November 6, 2016 Bad earths, usually, or a dud battery but you seem to have ruled that out. Put a voltmeter between the engine block and battery negative, and get somebody to turn the engine over and see if you get a voltage when cranking. Snagger Posted November 7, 2016 Share Posted November 7, 2016 Try a jump lead from any bare metal part of the engine to the negative post on the battery and then crank it.
