The original gearbox will go boom within two years.... Can't handle the extra torque. Plus the gearing is carp for the motorway. Get the box that was with the engine.
simply not true.
i have had my 200 for 3 or so years! and all i have done it break the over drive, but i was off road and it way my fault!!!
i have bigger tyres and 3.54 RRC diffs, with OD i cruise at 70 - 80 and its lovely
My gearbox was rebuilt a year before the tdi, and with regular oil checks its fine, Im sure that if i drove it off the lights flat out EVERY time it would go bang, but then again so do most cars!!!!
I dont want the newer box as i have a galvy chassis and dont wanna cut it!
Plus the whole 200000000 gear sticks is part of the whole 'series ' experience' !!!!

Dave, how much did the oil take off cost? and do you have any images of that mount on the engine?
Thanks

my 200 i think is dead, had a knocking noise stripped to find a bent con rod and swelled piston, replaced and its still got a knock, a different one but its still there.
i can get 300tdi for 250 complete .. i just have to take them out!
i would stick with a 200 but i cant seem to find one at a reasonable price!

Hi all, New here!
I have a 200tdi series with a dying engine, so im looking to go down the 300tdi route as i can get the engines pretty darn cheap.
Has anyone fitted one without chopping the drivers side mount? i cant cut mine as i have a galvy chassis.
I am thinking of using this custom mount made by a fellow member
i cant visualize whether the mount will work or not?
Anyone got any ideas?

this is what im on about.

looking at it, im not sure, a series chassis has an 'arm' which the engine mount bolts too, i think this might mean there just isn't the room

Can't see why it wouldn't to be honest the 300 does lend itself to being put in a series bay better mainly cos if the turbo placement and the serp belt setup is a better idea IMO.
hmm, this is my thinking.
Im begging to prefer the 300tdi's now, they are cheaper to buy, seem to be more refined as well.
and as you say the exhaust routing should be alot better.
I guess i need to get one made up

What fantastic work! This need to be put out there alot more, im sure it would save people lots of hassle.
Im thinking, Would this work for a Series 3 conversion, i have a 200 in mine that im looking to replace with a 300tdi.... anyone here know?
