I don't know why some people think plastic powder coating is a good idea because if a knock or scratch penetrates it, water gets in and the metal underneath rusts and lifts the coating. Good quality painting is a much better answer.

Thanks Ralph, I know now what to do, I'll go to my friendly local LR parts shop and get a clip.

I'm rebuilding a Defender 200tdi bought as an unfinished project. I can't see what holds the speedo cable into the drive fitting on the transfer box. The square cable end goes into the hollow square drive OK, but there's nothing to hold it in. Should there be some sort of a clip to hold the flange on the cable outer to the gearbox? Any ideas please.

JLR must have changed some of the wiring colours. I'm renovating a Defender 90 200tdi, the harness is in good condition but the previous owner disconnected virtually everything and didn't mark up the wires. I bought a Brooklands reproduction JLR wiring diagram but some of the colours don't match up and puzzling out what goes where is giving me a big headache, however it's comforting to know I'm not the only one.

Maybe the clutch pedal shaft is partially seized. That happened to me, it didn't allow the master cylinder piston to go back properly and refill the cylinder.

Thank you Gentlemen, I know where to look now.

Where can I find the model/serial numbers on the gearbox and transfer box?
-
I'm not familiar with the gearboxes and transfer boxes fitted to the Defenders, so can anyone tell me where the model numbers are stamped please? The vehicle is a '92 Defender 90 with a 200tdi.

Thanks for that RM. I didn't realise there were so many different springs available
-
Does no-one know how long the springs are?

I'm completing an abandoned project that has had new springs fitted, I think they are longer than standard to improve the ground clearance but the propshafts look standard. What is the unloaded length of standard coils (LR is a short WB 1992 year). Advice will be much appreciated.

I want to fit freewheeling hubs to my LR series 2A. There seems to be two types; 10 spline and 24 spline. How do I find what my type is without stripping down the hubs? Are there any issues with fitting and/or with using?
