I think handicapping is a great way to "level the playing field" or at least attempting to.

I feel that the way challenges have gone now that handicapping should / could be based on body type and level of external protection as well as driver aids.

If you look at a "standard class" vehicle at one of JST's events, the competitive ones are no different to the "modified class" other than no lockers or rear winch. So they can still bounce off every tree in sight. Obviously, they are built to meet the regs of that series, but to get more people into challenges who can actually be competitive, handicapping the traybacked tree barred fully caged machines in favour of the "soft skinned" trucks would prove interesting.

Sort of giving "daily driver" type trucks a fighting chance.

Perhaps this should be in a separate thread, sorry!

I do agree any vehicle that does not have standard wing and bodywork should have some sort of penalty.I feel people with nice looking trucks and with to keep them that way have a massive disadvantage over the bangers plus i think people would try harder to keep them in good shape.

  2. Hi team 35 here we managed to cross the finish line yesterday really really please we made it feel's like such an achievement. We had a few problem along the way lots with punchers and other bits but we managed to over come them thanks to challenger 4x4 and the dutch for the spare we had off them to get us going agian.A very big thanks to all our sponsors in the uk for there support without you this would not have been possible.

Hope the teams with casulty get better soon. The event was excellent very very extreme the days were very long and very exhusting. We had mixed weather the terrain and views were out of this world.

The locals were very friendly waving and cheering as we passed throw villages in the road book.It was great to see i think 14 different nationalities and to chat with them

A massive thanks to TAT for such an amazing well organised competition by far the best event we have ever competed in.

Picture's will be posted soon when we get home.

  3. The best events I ever entered were Jim's JBS winch challenges. Virgin sites most of the time and plenty of

technical sections, yes they do take a lot of setting up but it beats hide and seek and simple winch in, punch,

    winch out carp.

Must admit i dont think i have ever done a challenge as good as them.

We found i hard last weekend just not enought ground clearance but i dont think it was just us everyone seemed to have a low punch count.

Can there not be a few more punches layed out that are hard but not in sections then there is no rope to run over because it's does make you think why do we bother competing.

  4. Saturday we had a split top hose for the radiator where one of the jubile clips for the intercooler hose had rubbed through, we took it to rockingham landrover and got the bits to fix it which took 3 hours competing time <_< still came 11th on saturday though

Sunday morning i caught the front diffguard on a rock when reversing down a bank, the diffguard was bolted on and had two small blobs of weld either side, one of the blobs pulled a hole in the diff casing when it broke off  Easy fix with a bit of duck tape stuffed in the hole

Then the clutch felt like it was slipping a bit,(1 year with adrian giving it loads a dog  ) so i thought it would be better to call it a day rather than burn a clutch out in a bog. After that we did a 30 mile round trip to collect a new alternator to keep lee's truck going ;)

Yeah thanx for that Chris could not have done it without the alternator apart from that it was a good weekend thank's Adrian it was good having a co-driver that speaks english :lol: .Congratulations to team xtremelandy for spirt of the event for raising money for leukaemia.
