[Freelander 1 TD4]

We're having similar problems with Td4, 52 reg

Some days it will drive perfectly, others takes half hour to warm up

But today we've driven 12 miles, come to a set of traffic lights and now refusing to go into any gears....it's my mums car, I'm just in my way to her now

Wednesday she asked me to go to her works, she couldn't get it into reverse-she needed to get out of a parking space....it took me about 15mins to get it out of parking space, then I struggled with 1st and 2nd gear, 20mins later I was driving around the car park fine, out onto the road and up into 5th gear fine, back to parking space and reversed it back in ready for mum to finish work.

Mum finished couple of hours later and drove home fine.

If it was the gear selector surely I wouldn't get it into gear at all?

Spoke to couple of garages and they say it's unlikely to just need gearbox oil as it feeds from the engine....

Any advice please?

My mum has 52 plate Freelander Td4 2litre. Last couple of days she's had trouble getting into gear to start off with then later has to pull over and start from beginning again on motorway etc....could she just be low on gear fluid? Gearbox on way out or something else?

"The longer car is stationary the worse she is" (after I offered her my car)

" prob best I drive it down Sunday cos you gotta know what your doing with her when she plays up, no point forcing her into gear, I have to pull over, stop engine &I start all over again" (when I offered to take it to garage for her because she works long hours)

"I'm 99% sure it's the clutch, when engine is not running goes in every gear once I've started it no gears until it's warm" (but have been told if it was clutch it would get worse as it gets warmer not better)

"It's not making any funny noises at all, once warm it's still a bit difficult but manageable" (which was her reply to clutch getting worse not better)

Can anyone help?

I've just picked up couple of bottles of gearbox fluid but halfords have suggested draining current fluid and starting fresh....could this be right? Or are we clutching at straws?

Thanks Ally,think I gave settled in the L series just because it looks better lol

My brother said about the td4 being expensive to fixed it it does go drastically wrong

Just waiting for the guy to get back to me on when I can collect and I shall be firing loads of questions on here I'm sure of it

That's all info he's given me.

He said his son slammed the passenger door on freelander and thinks the mechanism has detached inside the door but he hasn't had chance to sort it but I'm hoping that will be a quick fix

I have a 2004 Renault Espace and have someone wanting to swap with me

He has black Freelander 2.0 XEdi 5 dr R reg (1998) 131000 miles

Or

Blue Freelander 2.0 Td4 GS 5dr X reg (2001) 176000 miles

The blue one has the BMW engine where the Black one has LandRover engine

I've always had buses (Seat Alhambra, VW Sharan, Ford Galaxy, etc) but after driving mums td4 I decided I wanted one.

Now I have the option of these two and don't know which one is best so that's why I've come to you lovely lot

Also could you give rough idea of prices for each please

He wants £100 and my car for black one and £250 and my car for blue one
