  1. Hello all, first post. She who must be obeyed thinks her Freelander is four wheel drive? Could someone tell me/us if it is or not. The car is the old shape on an 05 plate. thanks.

    Found this if it helps.

    Freelander's 4WD System

    Four Wheel Drive

Car-like driving qualities on road, with a bias to the front wheels in normal tarmac driving conditions.

An intelligent and automatic transfer of torque to the rear wheels to provide maximum traction when required..

Car-like feel, 4WD traction when required

In order to give car-like manoeuvrability and driving feel, most of the drive is channelled to the front wheels in a normal tarmac straight-line mode.

If the vehicle is operating in slippy conditions and one of the front wheels starts to lose traction, the difference between the front and rear propshaft speeds is sensed by the Viscous Coupling. The instant this happens, drive is progressively split as required between front and rear axles to maintain forward motion.

    The Benefits

    Car-like driving qualities on-road.

    Good high speed stability.

    4WD traction and handling off-road

    Lightweight.

    Reduced noise from transmission

  2. Is it possible that you are describing the noise made by the fuel burning heater given the recent cold weather? It's under the passenger side front arch. I have an O4 reg TD4 SE model that does this.

    Regards Dennis

New fuel pump now fitted, cost me 120.00, starting first time now.

    cheers. :D

  3. Hi, started getting a loud buzzing sound from around the fuel pump while driving yesterday but the car drives and started ok, today its makeing more noise from the pump area, still drives fine but now will not start, is it the pump thats dead under the wheel arch.

    its a late 03 td4.

    thanks

  4. Hi, if anyone is interested there is a synerny 2 for sale on the bay, just spoted it on a buy it now, 90.00

seems good to me, its under freelander td4 tuning and styling.

its not mine by the way, honest, just trying to be helpful.

  5. You have made one certain lady freelander driver a lot happier! Considering we are getting married in 4 weeks, an expensive repair bill on the Landy would of been most unwelcome!

Is the BMW part available from the LR dealership, or is it a case of ordering it via my local BMW dealership. Also, and bearing in mind I rarely get my hands oily, is it a job for an amateur. I'm not being tight, I just don't relish driving it to the garage knowing it could be doing damage to the engine!

Hi, just to let you know i changed my crank case filter in about half an hour, you will find that you have to remove 2 of your injector pipes to get the old unit off, dont be put off by this as it is very easey, its all explained on the site somewhere, i used the landrover part, 28.00 for the unit. Easey for us amateurs to do.

  6. i'm thinking of getting some of these too, where they easy to fit once you worked it all out? and how do they look (any pics)

    regards

    Dave

    :blink::blink:

Hi, They are very easy to fit and looks great, i got the full set and it makes it stand out. Its a bit disturbing when you are drilling into the wing of your car but well worth it.

I will try and post a picture tommorow, cheers,

    pete.

  7. Hi,

I have just changed the oils that you are doing on my td4 and had the same problem of how to drain the final drive oil, I got a oil pump from local shop (bullseye motor spares) 1.99.

It is used to fill the oil from a bottle into the gear box or IRD, simple hand pump job made of clear plastic but i put the tube in the other way and it takes the oil out before i turned it around and pumped the oil back in. I could only manage to get out two thirds of the oil in the drive this way but very easy to do, I wish i had had it when changing the gear oil.

  8. Just to let you all know, i've put a deposit on the Freelander,

Total cost will be £6999 with 12 months Tax and MOT, also included is a 3 year machical and electrical warrenty.

I personally think this is a very good deal (thanks to the credit crunch) got a grand off.

taking owner ship middle next week. i'll post a few pics to show you all what i got.

    :blink::blink:

Great stuff, now all you need is some running boards, light guards, roof rack and a rear ladder and she will look good, And dont forget to change the crankcase filter as soon as you get it or tell them to do it, they will not change it as part of a routine service and it needs doing on a 2004, only 20 pound. Have fun. ;)

  9. I have a 2003 freelander serangeti Td4, 46000 miles, had it for 6 monthe and love it, paid 3900 for it and would never have another now i have had this.

Great to drive and good on fuel, i do all my own servicing and its easey and good fun and keeps the car running well. I go to the lakes every weekend and it goes anywhere i want it to go.

There is nothing wrong with these cars, every car has its problems, i have had two new vauxhalls at work and had nothing but probs with them, this is a great car if looked after but for 8 grand i would want a nearly new one. Dont buy from a main dealer as you pay over the odds and get nothing that a private sale or small garage would give you for half the price. Go on get one you know you want to

  10. Hi

Just quickly - what determines this filter needing changing most - mileage or age, and regarding these when are the problems occurring? I recall that the BMW 320d had quite a few problems with the turbo's failing and destroying the engine - is this the same thing?

    Thanks

    Matt

Hi, Stratstone landrover told me they were in the car for life at first but then after a few blown turbos they changed that to every 5 years, now they recommend every 2 years regardles of mileage as a lot of stop starts can block it up.

  11. Hello all, the cars' due a service. All the parts a ready bar the fuel filter. I've got a 2002 model and it appears there may be a choice of two. Anyone know which one I need to order, and is there any bebefit from using a genuine landy part over an aftermarket part. This is probably a simple dilemma but it's got me. Cheers all.

Hi, The one you need to change is under the rear wheel arch, drivers side, its a sod of a job, get the genuine part as the aftermarket part may be a little bit bigger in diamiter and its a nightmare to get in.

Just done mine and it took 3 of us 2 hours from start to finish due to buying aftermarket version. Not sure of the code number for the fillter but i am sure there is only one rear fillter model for that year. good luck.

  13. Hi, i have just been given a tube of gear box molyslip to try, its suposed to be good for the box and prevent friction, has anyone tried it and is it safe to use in my freelander TD4.

    thanks .

  14. Can enyone help with the fitting of the light gurds i have got.

I have the full set , front and rear but no instructions, pre facelift model.

I have 10 screws but there are 14 holes in total? .Do you use some of the screws already in the car?

4 are short and 6 are long, also do you drill into the plastic bumper with the front ones, any help please.

    Thanks.

    picture of the screws.

  15. Hi all,

Just to let you all know that i have now changed the fuel filter on my TD4, She runs a lot better but what a pain to change it, took 3 of us 4 hours to do the job.

Its under the drivers side rear wheel arch and no matter what you do you cannot reach the wires and plugs/pips without having 3 hands. When we did get the old one out the new one refused to go back in so we took all the pump and filter off the car and did it in the shed.

Its better if you take the rear wheel off and the plastic wheel arch in side, which we did in the end.

Cannot wait to do it again in 2 years. :(

  16. Depending on its age we used to keep the LR warrenty ongoing which cost up about £500 ish each year.

80,000 is there limit I think

The first time we extended it I had to borrow the money off a mate as I was skint as usual and two days latter the rear main oil seal blow  which was fully covered :D

    Thanks for the info.

  17. Just got my first freelander, 2003 serangeti td4, 54ooo miles and paid 3900, wish i had got one years ago and not been put off by none freelander owners, it brill to drive.

As for the servicing i have just done my own and it cost me about 70 pounds and its very easey and enjoyable, i have even done things they do not do at the garage for the normal 250 price.

Dont forget to get the crankcase filter changed every 12 months, they do not do it if not asked and if not done it can blow the turbo, The filter cost me 16 pound and a half hour job. Get a freelander asap.

    cheers. :D

OK THE FILTER IS TAKING LONGER. :(
