  1. Series 2 will fit fine - my old 86" used to have one fitted. It is wider, so careful measuring needed to make sure there's not a gap between the rear tub mounts and tub! The shape along the bottom is different - squarer shape, and the drawbar mountings aren't there as on the S1 X-member.

Tell him to get a proper type - this is an addictive hobby, and he will regret saving money in a few years time when he decides he wants everything 'correct'!

Try Carl and Dale Radford on 01346 531062. They make an exact copy of the rear x member to your chassis number and they are realy good quality. I wouldnt bother buying one from Craddocks it will rust away in a few years.

  2. Just be cautious when pulling one of a breaker as many people I know have had faults with them during normal service. As mentioned before the expensive glow pulgs and other parts done make these as much of a bargin especially if you buy un tested.

  3. I have spent this afternoon pulling my hair out. I currently have my boss' P38 in for a couple of jobs whilst he is away (ive told him to sell it!!!). Being a Defender man Im finding it hard work.

His radio is completely illuminated and does work when plugged into another vehicle with an iso harness, but he has no sound coming out when in his p38, if your lucky it may work for a couple of minutes now and again. Im thinking this is a amplifier fault but was wondering where it is in the vehicle, and or if anyone has had a simular problem??

Any input welcome as it and he is driving me mad.

  4. Alarm guns are a good way scare people snooping about a yard. Most good game keeper suppliers sell them and they are fitted with a 12 bore blanks, set of via a trip wire.

Of course any 12 guage cartridges will fit but thats your choice.

  5. everyone wants one now the prices are going up theres less and less coming up for sale driving prices up to

I agree prices seem to be going mad. I think the reason you dont see them in the LR mags is because they are either in the series 1 club mags or sold before being offered for sale on the open market.

Do an ebay search and see for yourself. Im sure a pair of 86's sold at Brightwells this year for around £9000 each for useable vehicles. Im sure someone here will know the exact amount.

Send me some pictures I might be interested or know someone who is.

    Cheers

  6. Ive had a couple of issues with my 08 puma now at 3000 miles.

The brake pad rattle has been sorted by the fitting of a retro fit kit,

    Paintwork issues need sorting,

Water leaking into passenger footwell after heavy rain, still not sorted as dealer said rain water was a different viscosity to a hose pipe !!!!!! and couldnt make it leak.

I agree with a couple of the issues stated, carp tyres as oe (Now fitted with BFG MT's) Very poor steering lock, and a laughable radio and speaker setup.

Dash and wider seats are brilliant, 2nd row seats are a pain to get into for passengers.

Has anyone upgraded the stereo system with different speakers? If so what?

  7. Edd, you should have said hello a couple of weeks back! was over your way visiting. Nice place to be although you are upto 91p for unleaded now arent you?

    Hi James

Yeah about 91p per litre, but at certain petrol stations with a supermarket voucher you can get 10p per litre of, so 81p with road tax included, and no mot still makes motoring cheap.

Land rovers are very popular here as you may have seen, we have a couple of good sites we can use so its all good fun.

    Regards

  8. Just thought I would say hello being the new lad here. My name is Edd Jones, I have a 1952 80, a 1988 CSW V8 90 and a 2008 tdci 90 CSW. I am based in Guernsey the land of no MoT or road tax as such, the duty is on the fuel. It is still a lot cheaper than the mainland.

    Bye for now
