  1. Does it matter which way the 4 bolts and nuts face on prop shafts?

If the head of the bolt is against the out put joint they need to be put in first and then the joint needs the bigger nut put on?

    Does it matter?

As I have a front prop shaft with the 2 ways done on it.

I doesn't matter at all except that you will find it impossible to get a ring spanner on one end. always tighten the nut end, not the bolt head, if you get what I mean.

  2. sorri missd tht question

yes i got them from paddocks in matlock

    and here are some pics

post-13725-1231180288_thumb.jpg the tyre catches on the arch a bit on full articulation.

post-13725-1231180381_thumb.jpgso i bent them back, it still looks the same from the side.

post-13725-1231180621_thumb.jpgand now it doesent catch. :P

    mikey

So they're not Disco rims then?

Is that the only catch? The fronts OK? How much have you trimmed, in mm approx?

  3. Hi

Has anyone ever tried to refit the plastic clip on the clutch arm, the one that holds the slave cylinder push-rod in position. Easy yes, with the gearbox out, Bloody tricky with the gearbox in.

Here is a trick I worked out for doing the job through the slave cylinder mounting hole. simply glue a plastic electrical gland nut to the fitting, then use a small piece of plastic conduit screwed onto the gland nut to position the clip and fit it. the push-rod is safe inside the conduit and when done simply unscrew the conduit from the nut. The small gland nut will not interfere at all with the clutch opperation...

    Cool eh?

  4. I dont know but it looks remarkably like yours.. I dont think its Britpart because the numbers on the Brit are different to the damaged one, also the colour of the steel, the Brit is bright steel while mine and yours look dull and yellowy. i left mine at Craddocks so i only have the photos but you can just make out the numbers in one, something like 55-49 is all i can see now.

OK, you win that hand... :D:D

  5. Did you get the 235's then? are you using disco wheels? Just wonder if you loose any lock, I'm thinking of getting these but with basic 8 spoke wheels to get a little more offset. ( The basic cheap ones are within the 4" rule)

  6. Hi again everyone, quick update..

It was a bit cold today for gearbox playing but I did a couple of hours. Removed the gearbox output main gear, it was OK. Can feel nothing through the gearbox. Ive got the exhaust and props off ready to drop the transfer box next. At least that will make the gearbox managable to drop back and look inside the bell housing.... Looks like a gearbox strip is next.... Thanks for all the input guys.

    Thats all I've done though...

    F'in cold out there, Brrrrrrrrr

    Happy New Year All.

  7. Hi,

Thanks for that, Its my first Disco, bought with no drive so I'm trying to diagnose at the same time. Gearbox all feels as if its selecting but It wont make any engaement with the transfer gears, I've got the bottom cover off and the transfer box seems to engage correctly. now I'm wondering, broken gearbox shaft or clutch, the clutch feels fine from the pedal and nothing is making a noise.

I've done Rangies before and I'm not phazed by the task, just wanted to try and get as much information as possible from others with experience of the Disco. Its good because I was thinking RR and about to remove the seats etc....

Many thanks, Any other input greatly appreciated..

oh I wish I had a four post Ramp, LOL

  8. Has anyone here tried to get the gearbox out of a Disco from underneath? I've done a classic Rangie in the past with the floor out. Is "floor out" the only option on a Disco. Maybe it could be done if the transfer box was removed first?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks all for any input.
