  1. Don't know if this will help, had a problem with park position on my 300tdi.

It didn't know it was at the bottom and just kept on going, then sometimes it would stop correctly.

Changed the wiper motor ( second hand one for about £20) cured the problem :)

  2. A very similar question was posted in May by SOTAL, but no reply was forthcoming then.

Does anyone have an idea on this: On intermittent wipe the blade parks in one of 4 positions, the correct place and three others, one right in the line of sight, which is a nuisance. It goes through the cycle on successive wipes, so it's not random, but systematic. The wipe-frequency rotary switch on the arm has no effect; it does not work.

On continuous wipe, everything performs correctly on normal- and fast-.

On single wipe, it parks where I make it park.

I had a look in Haynes wiring circuit diagrams and there seems to be a Multi-Function Unit that has to do with the wipers, located behind the driver's side footwell wall, the manual says. It also has connections to the window controls and I do have an intermittent fault with the rear windows too.

Does anyone have any ideas on this, please, and do you think that MFU may be linked to both faults? Ideas would be gratefully received; Thanks

  3. I fitted new discs and pads to my 300tdi last year.

First run out I thought I had left something loose!!

Checked and rechecked everything, started to get really paranoid that it was a cv joint or something!

Put a post on here and was told it was pad rattle, never heard of it before, but the advice was that it would go away after a thousand miles or so, and..............................it did.

Just disappeared one day, never to be heard again :D

  4. Yeah mate, no worries, checked the calipers along with everything else I could think of

Been putting copper grease on all brakes since about 1981 when the sliding calipers on me 350LC kept seizing !!

In fact I have been cleaning the edges of new pads since then aswell to prevent sticking, but it seems in this case I might have contributed to the noise......... Doh!

  5. Yeah, changed those for some nice new shiny ones :D

Just read another post where someone said their transfer box sounded like a bag of spanners !!

It does have that kind of noise to it but this is noticable over a bump aswell as coming and going while driving.

  6. Well I have been underneath it again tonight, can't find anything loose suspension wise, exhaust etc.

Wheel bearings are all adjusted, levels are all ok (gearbox, axles etc).

Baffling me and bugging me in the same amounts.

But when you drive there is a rattling, clattering noise that is worse over bumps.

Propshaft u/j's are all ok, beginning to worry that all the obvious has been checked so it could be something internal and expensive in the tranny ?

I know it's hard to guess at a noise, just thought someone might have had something similar, might end up giving it to my local landy specialist, see if he can find anything ??

  7. Sorry, it's a 300Tdi '97 vintage with 132,000 on the clock.

Everything is pretty standard engine/box/suspension wise.

It sounds like it's coming from the hub area, but then noises from below can come from anywhere i suppose.

Will have another look tomorrow and check out the steering damper.

    Cheers.

  8. Got a metallic clattering from the offside front when driving.

Just fitted new discs and pads, new one shot in the swivel, greased and adjusted the bearings.

Now, after a few miles i can hear a noise with the window open. It's pretty loud over bumps aswell.

All suspension mounts seem ok, the noise is while driving.

Noise could have been there before I did the work, just never noticed

I don't know if the C.V joint makes a noise when on the way out ? or swivel bearings ?

Anyone with a clue what I need to get before I pull it apart again?

    Thanks for any advice offered.

  9. Had this happen on my '97 300Tdi.

Tried the relay and the switch, it was the wiper motor in the end

The motor wasn't recognising the park position, so it just kept on going round.

A wiper motor from a breakers for £20 fixed it :D

  10. Thanks for the welcome guys.

I will have a good look through the Tech stuff, cheers.

Ste...must admit I don't go offroad at all at the mo' used to play a bit with the Rangie, didn't know there were many places local but I haven't looked hard

Most of my freetime is spent on or fixing my Gsxr....you know..one of them pesky two wheeled things :o

  11. Hello people, newbie here.

Thought I would introduce myself before I start to pick peoples brains

Me name is Colin and I'm in Cheshire. I've had a '96 300 Tdi for almost 2 years, and before that a hybrid Rangie with a 2" lift.

I've had some of the common probs and got round them one way or another, door locks that don't, wipers that don't, collapsed swivel bearings, etc etc I just wish I had found this place before I tackled some of the jobs on the Disco and previously on the Rangie.

Been havin a bit of a read and it seems there are some very knowledgeable people on here.

So anyway, just thought I would pop in and say hello and I hope i don't ask too many questions that have been asked sooooo

    many times before!

    Cheers, and Happy New Year.
