  1. Was thinking that with the " right " size drill and the fact that it is thin plate then a compromise might be found where the fitting would screw itself in much like a self tapper. Security not being too critical 'cos it isn't load bearing like a bolt........ Too tight too buy a tap I suppose !........ I like the idea of using a 1/8th bsp nut, it's obvious once someone tells you. Reckon I'll go down that route, thanks.

  2. Thanks everyone for the top help,I shall now be able to get the job done with the confidence that I am doing it right. Just one more thing, when drilling the thin metal plate on the top of the gearbox do you HAVE to use a 1/8th bsp tap or is there a suitable drill size that will be ok ( bearing in mind it is thin plate ) ? Once again many thanks.

  3. Hi !!! Just wondering how the overdrive is working and is it noisy / whining ????..........Tell you why 'cos I was offered one like yours where the teeth on the small gear were worn to an uneven shape and a little blued off. I chose to hang off for a while and the bloke is holding it for me . Wondered if yours was ok 'cos if so then I would buy it and fit it. Hoping you could help me out and advise. Thanks. P.S. When fiting 'boxes put a liberal spread of grease on the gasket surfaces and the leaks will not come.

  4. Have a fancy for some deep wading in all sorts of terrain but realise that extended breathers are required. Can anyone tell me who sells them for axles / gearboxes and anything else that requires doing ! Also, where are they fitted on the gearbox ? ( axles are obvious ! ) . Can I make my own to save lolly and if so what sizes of fittings and pipe do I need to get and where ??? Basically I am looking for all the info I can get to get the job done for the least amount of money 'cos her indoors has a tight grip on the pirse strings due to my ability to spend the gas and food money on " rusty oily junk " !!!!!!!. Help obviously needed.

P.S. I heard someone going on about a manifold to tie all the bits together on the brething side ? anyone know what this is ? Thanks in advance from a novice .

  5. I want to put extended breathers on the gearbox/transfer box as a first step to some deeper wading, is it as straight forward as doing the axles or is there more involved?

    Cheers Steve

Yeah, me too, I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this. Where do they go and what thread fittings are used ? Do you use threaded holes that are already there or do you drill and tap them yourself ? Just a thought is there any thing else that should be modded ?
