  1. I'll ignore the possible jokes about a 24 inch caravan...

IMHO at 1300 Kg you would be pushing the towing capabilities of a Freelander in good fettle.

Given that yours has been bodged converted to two wheel drive I think you are asking for trouble.

Sorry if that's not what you want to hear.

  2. I have read with interest several threads about supercharging as it's something I want to do to my 4.6 110 but I don't know much about superchargers.

Quite a few of the local "petrol heads" are driving modified Jap saloons with insanely huge turbos, even though these all seem to have variable boost they all have waste gates.

My L322 is supercharged but it certainly doesn't have anything like a waste gate so what is governing the air pressure?

Is it just a case of selecting the correct supercharger pulley size so it can't exceed the desired boost pressure at maximum RPM?

  3. The rubber bush screws on to the lever but IIRC a new one doesn't have an internal thread.

Don't know if they were ever bonded into the knob or not but I think they just relied on the lateral force exerted by the thread on the lever.

If you can get the rubber bush off in one piece superglue it back into the knob & screw it back on.

  4. The 4.6 does as you say have a longer stroke than the 3.9.

    Are the blocks the same?

Depends on the age of the 3.9, IIRC 3.9 blocks from '95 onwards were cross bolted, earlier ones weren't, but yes you can use a manual gearbox with either (my 4.6 110 is a manual at the moment).

As for tuning any Rover V8, forum member Fridge Freezer has been known to say it's like "polishing a turd", might sound harsh but he is correct, the RV8 is a very old design, yes you can improve it but it will cost you lots for not much improvement unless you are prepared to pay serious money.

A 3.9 is putting out approx. 180 BHP, a 4.6 around 240 BHP, neither of which is great if you think about it.

By comparison the (Jag derived) SC 4.2 in my L322 RR is allegedly around 400 BHP.

Having said all that, don't discount fitting any RV8, they work very well in any Defender & always put a smile on my face :i-m_so_happy:
