  2. Hi,

Decided to fit the EGR blanking kit today.

While taking off the existing pipework, I snapped off the two bolts shown below.

Taking the bits out that are left behind will be a pain in the A.... I'm sure !

Does anyone know of an other method to blank off this bit of pipework ?

Or a smart way of getting those bits out ?

    Thanks

    Edwin

I usually spot weld on to broken stud to build it out a bit then weld a nut on to it and when its hot just take it out.

  3. Hi all,

Am just putting this out there for you all to keep an eye out for a Land Rover 90 2.5td truck cab in dark green with white roof reg number: D157BFP chassis number: SALLDVAB7AA282893. It was stolen from Long Eaton in Nottingham this morning. No battery was fitted but that didn't stop them. it has a repainted chassis in black and 5 brand new 600x16 "Cross Ply type" tyres fitted. Reward offered for recovery of this much loved vehicle. If you know of it's whereabouts then please contact me (pm) or call Long Eaton Police on 0345 1233333. Thanks

    Dave.

Truck cab and wheels/tyres (white top with round cover plate from flashing light removal, green sides), other parts could be on auction sites etc.

Thats bad news, any pics? would be helpful.

  4. Anyone got any suggestions?

Want 1.0mm 10mm in .5mm increments but dont want to spend a fortune. equally, I dont want to be stopping halfway through a job because the bit has melted.

    cheers!

I have two sets of them ones in a blue box from Lidl, use them on stainless all the time. Cost €9.99 a set, have one set in garage and one in van, they been good.

  5. Hi guys,

Looking to install an inverter in my Landy ... around 250W will do (not planning to arc weld in the middle of Botwana). Mainly to keep the laptop, sat phone and cameras topped up (maybe a small appliance).

I've had a quick look around Maplin, and saw that familiar names, like Clark, not getting the best of reviews; so I'd like to hear from those in the field, please.

    Cheers for your time.

    -JackSA

Mine is 1800 watt, does everything I want, cant remember the name, Landy having clutch done so cant look. It allows me to run a small kettle, 110 transformer to run 5" angle grinder and various power tools, I have had to install a leisure batery as I am afraid to drain the cranking battery.

  6. Hi folks

    some advice please

I have a 300tdi which has gone through the special vechiles department for what i belive was the waterboard. It has a superwinch pto winch fitted which i would like a parts diagram for the whole instalation as i need a part for the drive train.

Any one any idea where i can get this from and who i can order it from?

Also are these better than elactric winches? advantages/disadvantages

    many thanks

    regards antony110

I have one of those with the superwinch H14W driven from the pto. Which parts you want?

  7. Hi all, had my 90 resrayed last year and since then ive had a leak everytime it rains in the drivers footwell. I had the windscreen rubber replaced at the same time, at first I thought it might be the vent seals so I changed them but to no avail. I dont know if its the windscreen rubber to blame ,can water get through them? ,has anyone had a similar problem?

Mine leaks too, it comes through the seal below the windscreen/bulkhead on mine. Console yourself, its a landrover, they seem to leak inwardly and outwardly.

  8. I have been offered a 1:2 transfer box.

I am about to have the clutch done in my Td5 at last, but I am contemplating fitting the 1:2 transfer box at the same time, but I am not sure what is fitted at the moment, Would a 1:4 ratio box be the norm? How do I check, is there a serial number on the box somewhere?

What advantage would fiting this box give me? I presume that it would give me better fuel economy at speed and lower engine revs, if I tow anything I like to use the D3.

    Thanks in advance

    Graham.

  9. Hi all I recently started fitting a 1500w inverter into my 90. This may sound a silly question to some but once operational what would happen if the 240v tool etc went wrong and needed to earth? Could it end up making a faraday cage out of my metal bodywork as there is no direct route to ground earth? :(

I intend to use an rcd in anycase with the thought that this will kill the circuit if an earth leakage is found?

Also when switching a power feed to the inverter can it be wired through a relay in the normal way,? This is because it will be a permenant fixture with a water proof socket box near the rear door and I dont want it live all the time.

Ill get pictures up of the install when its finished if anybody is interested.

    Thank you in advance

My 1800 watt inverter just trips and I have to switch it off then on again if there is any problems.

  10. The passenger front door on my D3 will not unlock with the C/L. I have tried removing the cap on the outside of the door to unlock it manually but will not open nor will it open with the button on the dash. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Graham.

  11. Well seems like theres another problem i have found with this td5, when i acelerate at a fast pace once I get to say 10mph in 1st, 20 in 2nd and so on the Td5 starts going power, no power, power, no power.

Kinda like its stopping and starting ? But say i go slowly up to those speeds the landrover is find and can go higher.

Just wondering if anyone else had/has this and knows why it does this. My mate seems to think its the clutch starting to slip at high revs.

I have a similar problem with mine, when I push her on especially in 3rd and 4th the clutch slips and I back off the power and Getting new one in ext week.

  12. First thing that would be nice to know is what age is your defender and which engine do you have ...

Presuming that you have say an original 200tdi then when you refitted your filter there should be an outer rubber sealing ring and a small inner rubber sealing ring. If these aren't seated properly then you will likely drag in air especially if your lift pump is u/s.

The way to check your lift pump is to loosen the bleed screw on the top of the filter housing and then move the arm up and down on your lift pump. The arm sticks out of the rear lift pump. If you don'y get a good spirt of diesel out of the filter then replace your lift pump. However the injection pump should still be able to drag fuel from the tank at a reduced rate even without the lift pump so you will still need to work out where you are dragging in air from. Also check that you closed the drain on the bottom of the filter.

It also helps if you fill the filter with diesel before you fit it>

  13. Will a Q Max cutter cut 3mm checker plate?

I've read one will cut 16 gauge steel (1.6 mm iirc) but I don't know if that is for all sizes, a limit or a recomendation, nor what that means for alloy...?

    Anyone help please?

Cutting ally is abit like cutting timber, dont go to fast and it will be fine. What size hole?

  14. Looking at updating my tool collection now I have a Disco, any recommendations on the types of sockets to buy, hex, bi hex, splined etc and makes, looked at Halfords Pro stuff and Machine Marts Pro stuff - not sure if there ok, certainly can't afford Snap On stuff though, any ideas appreciated.

Buy a good ratchet, Britool or somthing of that quality, what I did 20 years ago was bought impact socket set with 3/8 drive and 1/2 drive with short and deep sockets up to 24 mm. have bought some others since separately, 27 30 32 36. broke most things with them, bolts and breaker bars but not the sockets and regularly beat the carp out of them. Think I paid around £45 and they are just a chep set, out of the back of a white transit off some gadget with a dodgy accent.

  15. In fact I deleted 2 copies of that post over the last 2 days.

if your unsure Please PM me or MOG & we will reply, it maybe not what you want to hear BUT this is a Tech forum for our beloved/hated 90/110/Defenders.

Ok no problem, just thought I had put them somewhere else and when there was no notice and they were gone did not know what had happened. Did not intend to upset the apple cart.

  16. Blowlamp to melt the rubber to allow you to slide the inner collar out, then hacksaw a chunk of rubber out, and hacksaw again through the outer case, followed by a small chisel/punch to bend it inwards and break the rust seal and it will slide out.

Careful not to nick the arm as you do it, although a round/half round file works well to clean up any rough edges

With practice you can do this in about 5 mins per bush :)

Just what I was going to add, the simplest and best action to take.
  17. My last two posts have gone but dont know where? I posted it Monday night and again yesterday. It was about your passpot details, if you typed in your name and country of birth after a few seconds up pops a picture with a chimp and your name with it, was just for to bring a smile to everyones faces and have a laugh, is that not allowed on here??????????????? :o

  18. you already have one fitted to a TD5. It's at the back of the engine next to front axle breather. If you want to extend them, just snip off loop and use some push fittings and extra pipe.

    Steve

I saw that one plus one more. Its just the kit I bought has two lengths of pipe and 3 90 degree swivel elbows. Axles and gearbox and trans box done then the fitting bible that came with it says that one fitting should go into the bottom of the gearbox bellhousing. maybe I dont need the thing and its just a bit of bulls--t, what do you think? There is one 8mm bolt screwed in that I think does not look original, not sure about it, and what is the larger threaded hole for that I can get my finger in to?
