  1. Thank you for all your replies. I found the edis8 fault.....was my fault..removing a fuse to a coil n NOT megajolt...complete and utter idiot i am...you aught to know lol

The backfire was caused by a spark plug that had turned bad...the ceramic had cracked and under heavy load (blip of throttle) arc to the engine..cylinder then full of lpg...and megajolt has the redundant spark statem so........................BANG !!

Thanks again for the help, it was appreciated

  2. i will get all the info together and get back to you

what i can say is.. on petrol its smooth. The HT leads are from trigger wheels so cant imagine theyve degraded all of a sudden . Its running a single point lpg vapouriser. Its a very basic system so no sensors im afraid. As i say it was all of a sudden

  3. Ive been running Megajolt on my 3.9l Disco1 with brill results for 6months now. However its developed a wierd fault. When you blip the throttle the engine stutters for a split second and this causes the LPG to backfire big time...destroyed 2 airboxes now . Other than the stutter the rev is smooth and the idle is smooth as normal. However if i remove the fuse for the MJ (v3) so i runs on EDIS8 at 10TDC it wont run..the engine shakes like hell and cannot be revved. Sometimes it wont even start on it even though it used to. Soon as i insert the MJ fuse the engine kicks back to being smooth with the blip problem...

Ive changed the sensor and bracket..no change..Ive fitted a second EDIS8 still the same.

    Im lost..can anyone help

    Thanks in advance

  4. Thanks for the reply guys, sorry for delay in answering. I tried pin 2 from the EDIS8 unit and it worked a treat and the lpg switch over as it should, however i lost the ability to double flick on the switch over switch and start on Gas.

I also disconnected the coil and it wont start atall with out it connected fully...very strange so ive now connected the LPG back to the original coil so i retain switch start on lpg

Any ideas atall. I appreciate the help

    Darren

  5. well ive finished the install.

Ive used 15amp fuses for each coil, 10amp for the EDIS8 unit and a 5amp for the megajolt V3.

Ive used an output i found on the back of the plenum so thats sorted my MAP sensor

im not going to bother with the map switch as the LPG map seems to run petrol as good as LPG.

I still havent found out what to do with my LPG trigger yet. It currently is connected to the negative side of the coil and im asuming it reads the pulses and kicks in LPG as 1250RPM. Not sure where to connect up on the new coils or how. Ive still left the old ignition system on the car so using the old coil to swap to LPG lol

Anyone any ideas how to connect up this trigger atall.?

    Cheers

  6. Hi everyone, Im finally in the process of fitting megajolt(v3,MAP) onto my 97 V8 serp, lpg disco.

Ive done the basic fit and everything seems to be running in just EDIS8 mode. Finalising everything off but found the lead i had for the pc to megajolt to be wrong ( i hope its that anyway).Just a few queries im hoping you could help me answer

    1. What ampage fuse should i put on the system?. Ive gotta find a suitable positive with the ignition yet and ive run the EDIS and MJ on the same power lead as recommended.

    2. For the MAP, can i take it from the original advance take off for the dizzy on top of plenum?

    3. I have a standard V8 3.9 map that someone kindly sent me, but can anyone point me in the direction of a suitable LPG map...i use this 90% of the time (96'-3.9-V8-serp-MAP-MJV3)

4.For the megajolt v3..Is it as simple as adding a negative trigger to switch maps (to switch to lpg map)

5.i have a basic single point LPG system that doesnt link into the lamba atall(is that open loop?). Where is the best point to now trigger the lpg system. It currently has a trigger wire going to the coil.

I do appreciate any help you can give me on any of these points. Ive scoured the site and cant find any answer to these...if i have missed them then i am sorry

Thanks in advance for your help

  7. Well sorry for a very late reply with the outcome. Things got put on hold but back with it now lol

Went and put all together using an 18mm adapter for a temp sender in the heater hose (t-piece to the Vaporiser)

Happy with the results...far more info and great for laning. Coz of the upgrade ive managed to find my current electric fans were....naff for hard work..extreme laning and towing on hills.

So they got upgraded with 2001 bug-eye subaru fans..like a plane taking off..anyways of topic there.

Heres the pics of the finished mod

    Next mod....megajolt!!!

  8. Go for the extra insurance of a low coolant/temp alarm such as this haydn one http://www.coolantal...viewCat&catId=9

Looks good, but ouch....that like buying kenlowes over doing your own lol....but cheers anyway

I bought one of these for exactly the same reason you want one:

    http://rspec.co.uk/p...ture-gauge-degc

I tested its accuracy before fitting by using a calibrated thermocouple I borrowed from work and there was less than 1deg difference in the readings. I fitted the sender in the stock location as it doesn't require chopping up any hoses and isn't affected by the thermostat being open/closed.

Although it is a bit 'bling' it has the added benefit of a programmable warning which will illuminate and/or beep at you when the temperature goes above the level you set. It also stores the highest temperature and automatically dims the backlight when you turn on the headlights so that it isn't too bright when driving at night.

    That looks good,

this is the one im thinking off

    http://www.mcgillmotorsports.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=890

seems ok just need to sort out an inline heater hose adapter

  9. cheers for the responces guys

85 degrees C is just under 1/2 way, -- it's normal running position, 1/2 was is 90 deg. C and at the top of the white line, or 3/4 its 105 deg. C

I've stayed with it ever since, my point is how will you know that your expensive after market replacement is going to be any more accurate than the original unless you test it ? Or you could test the one you've got and stick with it.

Unfortunately mine reads just under half for everything,cold,hot,volcanic.....its the second sender aswell, i know of 3 other guys with V8 and they all have this problem.

Its not that expensive at £25 and claims to be within 1 degree of accurate from mcgill motorsports, its a digital readout plus voltage(which is handy after a alty change and dual batteries upgrade)

I put mine in one of the heater hoses. A lot simpler to get parts to do it and water runs through there all the time, whether or not the thermostat is open

What adapter did you use, i cant find one small enought (19mm i think)

Very few gauges are "accurate". Based on other temp readings In get, the accuracy is reasonable.

I know what you mean but its gonna be better than what ive got at the moment lol

    cheers again for the help

  10. Hi guys, Ive found your site fantastic for information regarding my Manual Disco v8 LPG '97'.

However ive come to dead end with a problem ive got. The other weekend i ended up boiling my engine, knackering my water pump and splitting my expansion bottle. Basically im running electric fans and doing a rough bit of greenlaning and the variable temp gauge turned itself up from the set 90 to 120 C....boom.

Anyways all fixed now and running fine so no head gasket problem...<phew>

So im wanting to fit an after market temp gauge as the one fitted is well....useless...reads the same no matter what, even when it went boom lol

Whats the best place to fit the temp sensor? I know i can fit an inline adaptor that fits in the top hose, but i know it wont give me an accurate reading until the thermostat opens at 88 C.

Where is the best place to fit the sensor. I have tried the search but couldnt find anything

Thanks in advance for your help
