  1. On my D reg land rover 90 I have trouble trying to get the difflock lever back into the r/h position. It engages in the l/h position ok and the difflock works, but most the time I can only get it back into the middle position, does this disengage the difflock. As ever since I have had the 90 the difflock light hasnt worked. It will go into the r/h position occasionly but it needs alot of force.

Will it be ok to use until i have the time to look into whats causing the problem, and any ideas what the problem I might have as most issues reported are trying to get it into l/h position not r/h.

  2. well job done maybe should of been clearer it was a front axle I already have a 300tdi rear axle but broke my 300tdi front so was running an original 10 spline.

The diff and shafts do fit but needed 4 studs off a 300tdi axle for the diff as the original ones were shorter so wouldnt be able to put nuts on (slightly different machining on diff housing) as someone stated stub axles are shorter and the hubs are different as well so had to use the later stub shafts, hub, and discs. I tried it this way thinking it would be quicker than swapping an axle again but I was wrong (oh well worth a try)

  3. I was working on a friends 300tdi defender last week that had the same symptons after getting altenator repaired I found the small guage wire (brown with yellow trace) on the altenator had shorted to the larger one.

this may not be any help you could have a different fault but might be worth checking to see if you have 12volts on the small guage wire going to the altenator from the dashboard with the ignition off you shouldnt have 12volts but his did

  4. I have been working on a mates 300tdi n reg defender which is drawing power from the battery constantly thought i found the fault to be the altenator as the little wire (brown with yellow trace) is causing the problem when connected to the altenator had the altenator repaired but the little wire is still drawing 3 amps.

now i believe the little wire is going to the instrument panel my question is has anyone had this problem before and know where I should start looking many thanks

  5. when out playing in the mud today I heard a clunk then lost drive on the front axle I partially stripped the axle and found damage on the last 6mm or so of the spline and when I look into the axle I can only see half the splined section in the diff as if it has dropped what inside the diff is likely to have failed and more importantly why would it its as if the gear has come off the end of the half shaft.

    cheers

  6. found the answer turns out the person my mate bought the discovery off of had damaged the thread inside the steering arm off the drag link so couldnt set the tracking so set the tracking with the steering turned a full rotation right so the drag link fouled on a braket on the chassis

  7. Im looking at a mates discovery tonight but have dont know what the problem might be I have tried searching on a search engine but nothing.

As the title suggests it has very little lock right but full lock left is there any common faults to check otherwise I will have to keep removing ball joints to narrow down the cause cheers

  8. What options for an intercooler but was quite shocked at the price of a new intercooler and radiator for a defender im also thinking about changing my viscous fan for an electric one, my injectors were replaced when i rebuilt the engine to be honest the performance of my engine isnt poor it will pull itself to about 75 ish but thought i might be able to make it slighlty better
