When I take of the driver seat access pleate the yellow wire for the handbrake is lying disconnected - it seems to have a push in fitting - I can't see where it goes - any ideas? The wire is not that long.
Also looking across to the passenger side from here I can see a disconnected plug - am presuming this is the reverse light and just have to find the switch end?

Hello all,
I've just had a lovely glavanised chassis put on. However I am disappointed to find that my reverse lamp (no 12V to socket) and both dash indicators lamps are not working for the hand brake(lamps ok).
Is there a common socket that has been left disconnected on top of the gearbos for these. Grateful for any advice, a bit dissappointed with the people that done the job, should have all been checked.

What about a K&N Filter?
Are these just a waste of time and a bit of a gimick?
Will they damage the engine eventually, which seems to be what I read.

Firstly, sorry if you have covered this before, I use my Defender for my daily drive, around 70 miles and wouldn't mind getting more mpg, so:
1. Is getting an EGR removal kit and de-cat pipe worth it (I'm aware it does not affect an MOT - or does it)?
2. Should it be surrendered to your insurance company?

Have given up for the day, its year is 1998, 300tdi csw on an R plate, i'm sure its not anything to do with the headlamp problem I now have, must be unused. The fuse that is blowing is a 7.5 amp supply fuse. I notice the headlamp glows dimly after the fuse blows - is this an indication of an earth?
If you have a cct diagram that would be great. Thinking it must be a relay. All I have is the diagram behind the fuse box.

The orange/black and black wire with socket remain disconnected - the side lights, indicators and wing indicators all work, I'm sorry but the wire is orange/black and black.

Drove into work this morning and have discovered that the fuse for the headlamp has blown on this side again, full beam still works.
From my original post, I've just changed the bulb and fuse, thats when I found this socket. I'm not sure that the socket is related?? The socket on the headlamp looks fine and is not the same.....as I said the spare socket is the same for the sidelamps and indicators.....

A function of living next to a Land Rover owner - don't worry, they'll get curious / need a favour at soem point.
I think it might be a spare pick-up point for something? At the risk of the neighbours calling the nice men in the clean white coats, is there one on the other side too? might be for additional sidelights?
No, nothing on the other side, it must be for something like that, would just be nice to know what it was.

Nah, that's faded red and black, for sidelights. Turn the sides on in the cab and put a meter across it - bet you a pound to forum funds I'm right
Well, don't have a meter at home, but all my sides work - triple checked and all connected. The neighbours must think I'm potty!!!

Here it is, as I say all my indicators work, it does not look like a rabbit run, I just wonder if I've pulled if of some where...it is orange and black....

Hello again!
I have just replaced a headlamp bulb on the passenger side of my defender. However, when doing it I noticed an extra socket complete with wiring that appears disconnected - the socket is of the same smaller type as the side lights and indicators, the wiring is orange and black.
All my side lights/indicators working, does anyone know what its for?

Just had the same on my 300Tdi, started as a few drips after 100 miles then got as bad as dripping after 3 miles. The joint is crimped and non repairable. New genuine parts hose is only around £35 inc vat.

It will be the leak detection dye that has been added to the refrigerant oil... as tommeke says...

There are high compression fittings on the high pressure side, so a jubilee clip or similar won't be up to the job. On the low pressure side - (supply to the pump and return), you can get a good seal with a jubilee clip.

There are no jubilee connections, the connection looks like a crimped steel sheath, over the small bore pipe.
Is this a bayonet connection? Or has it been crimped on in situ? It a 300 tdi by the way....

Hello,
Have just found a leak on the power steering hydraulic system, on the fitting were the small bore pipe from the pump connects to the flexible hose (thought it was the union on the pump but is dead on were the small bore connects to the flexible hose). How are these flexible hoses connected to the small bore pipework - are they crimped on? Can I change these fittings or is it best to get a garage to do it?

This is all sorted now, just back from a test drive, when I pulled the old rear UJ apart all the rollers of one of the cups had disintegrated - the defender now purrs along like a brand new one.

Have you pulled the squirters off to see if the pin holes are blocked? Mine were blocked with black growth when I bought mine (which was sitting rusting away on the Sherland Islands). Same symptoms could hear the pump running with nothing coming out...

Just checked my front, they are 'out of phase', my parts arrived today - will fit to my 'in phase' rear tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

I have found a virtually seized UJ on the drive to the rear axle - so hope that will be the cause of my recent vibration, and will change it when the spare arrives.
However, as I was taking the rear propshaft out, the slider accidently disconnected from the propshaft - I think I put it back the original way.
What if I haven't? I noticed one of the female splines has purposely been removed - why is that?
Any advice is appreciated...

Right, have changed the fwd UJs now and this has made no difference at all (the old ones looked in quite good nick). Should I do the rear ones now (from the outside they look quite rusty). The vibration seems through out. Please help....

Have just found these connection, one push in connection for the handbrake and both male and female connection for the reverse light just hanging loose. Thanks for the advice.
The electronic control unit under the middle seat on my 300tdi, is this for the EGR valve? He's just cut through that and left it - i think this is redundant? Isn't it?
