Hi
Had the same problem, and it slowly got worse, turned out to be a worn hub slightly out of true, suspect worn wheel bearing
2 new hubs fitted £60 each all now sorted.

Hi All
My land rover discovery 2 td5 has a fuel issue, it's difficult to start, once started runs fine, no dash lights, but after a mile it seems to
run out of fuel, carry out the purge ( 5 pumps) takes ages for the engine light to stop flashing, when you try and start it, it churns over
and try's to start with clouds of black smoke from the exhaust, then finally starts. After fitting new fuel pump started and ran fine for two days
then when I went up a steep hill stopped half way up.
Tried so far.
New fuel harness
new fuel pump
cleaned ecu red plug
copper washers just arrived fitting Monday.
Any one had the same problem, any fixes or advice would be welcome.

Hi All
If anyone is interested in a ABS Amigo V1-USB from RSW Solutions I have one for sale. Its a diagnostic tool for the Land Rover Discovery 2
and TD5 only. You can seen how it works on the RSW web site on You tube. It resolved my problems, as after many hours of searching for the
ABS fault, and replacing most of the ABS system and brakes, purchased this from RSW in the USA and found the problem first time, it appears that some ABS leads that are not OEM are a tad longer 05mm and rub on the ABS pickup causing the fault, a small fibre washer resolved the problem
6 months on no lights. This ABS Amigo does not reset the fault codes only finds them.
Also have a Land Rover Becker sat nav with discs and antenna removed from a 2003 TD5 but will fit any Discovery TD5 with a small addition of a speed wire
connected from under the steering wheel and spliced into the sat nav harness, easy job. See TD5 web site for details.

Hi all
Got a real headache with my 2001 TD5, the horns and cruise control have stopped working, checked all connections to the horns an cruise control, both work when direct power is applied no vac leaks, changed rotary coupler in steering wheel, but still no joy. Has anyone ever had this problem as there seems to be a lot of threads on the web but no one has had a result.
The only thing I can think of is the rotary coupler I got from Ebay may be duff, so I will try another one, but in the mean time anyone any ideas.

Hi all
Looking for any info as to why my Discovery TD5 ( air bag suspention, renewed last year) has this strange knock from the
rear on small bumps and on level ground smooth tarmac if you move the steering wheel slighlty from side to side you get
a knock from the back on each roll of the body. Checked the watts linkage, exhaust, and most other joints and bushes with a bar
but can not find any movement. Pushed the body from side to side still no knock, jumped on the tow bar, no nock.
Any one any ideas as its anoying no being able to find this knock.

Hi All
Got a problem with my Disco 2 TD5, the ignition lock keeps jamming, the key will go in but not turn. when you try and start the car, needs a new ignition barrel lock. Question do I need to get the keys from the new barrel lock coded, or is it a straight swap, or will I have to keep my old door keys, any advice welcome.

Hi
Had into the workshop for diagnostic check, nothing found no fault codes recorded, they
removed battery and let it stand 20mins, reconnected battery no lights, 48hrs later
still no sign of lights, mechanic says I have the TD5 gremlin in the ECU recommends
I try a second hand ECU, and see if it cures the problem.

Hi
If's it's the 2.5 BMW engine they tend to blow the head gasket,
and there is no sign of oil in the water, but the crankcase gets pressurised with the exhaust gasses
and oil is blown out of the dip stick.
Remove the filter that comes out of the cylinder head and
see whats coming out, on mine it waster, oil & steam.
I cured mine with K Seal and it worked for 2 years and then I sold it still working ok.
Hope this helps

Hi All
Just finished installing a Becker BE4765 sat nav unit into my Discovery TD5 2001,
the unit is working but wont configure after the 3 mile run.
I have been told it needs a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) input to the unit,
can anyone tell me where the VSS pickup is.or the colour of the wires.
This unit was removed from a 2003 facelift Discovery, as my Discovery is a 2001 its
possible i do not have the corredt VSS.

Hi All
I had the problem of the fuel lines rubbing on the chassis 2001 TD5 and leaking,
renewed the fuel lines all four, the problem is the pipe that leads to the engine
passes through the chassis and conects to the pump via a square plug, since i had the work done
the connector keeps blowing off, engine fails and dumps fuel on the road, three times now
has any one had this problem and is there a cure, dont fancy changing the main fuel line.

Hi all
Had the problem of the fuel pipes bursting on my 2001 Discovery 2 TD5 2001, managed to get
some new pipes from DLS at Matlock, but how do you remove the rear carpet, any help and
advice would be welcome,
Regards
Brian
PS. It has the two rear bins not seats (5 seater)

Hi
Is it oil smoke, as a white smoke indicates water is getting in some where,
and as you run it burns off, when it gets hot. Suspect head gasket, check coolant levels,
are you loosing coolant.

Hi
It's caused by a worn fuel distribution pump, very common on the BMW 6cyl. 2.5 diesels,
it would cost 100s of pounds at the dealership so they produced this hot start fix.

Hi
You need a hot start kit from Ebay around £20 fitted in 10 mins.
Common fault with the BWW RR my one was the same started first thing
then refused to start when warm.
The kit fools the ECU that the car is cold, works a treat no futher
problems.

They seem to be the digital headlights from a series 3 discovery.

Hi All
Thinking of upgrading my series 2 Disco with the newer 03 headlights,
does anyone know if it is a straight swap, or does there have to be some cutting
to get them to fit.
I have seen from TD5 Alive that you have to alter the wiring, so any help
or advice would be helpfull.

Hi
Get yourself a hot start kit from ebay about £20, will fix the problem
by fooling the ECU that the engine is cold. IT WORKS takes about 30 mins to install
a small pcb and three or four wires to connect.
Have fun

Hi All
I have just purchased a Discovery 2 TD5 XS, and I want to fit some side steps
but having a little difficulty gaining the correct information before spashing the cash.
On the TD5 there is a kind of step made of plastic with a built in mud plap, and it is
secured to the vehicle by a series of plastic studs, is this step removed in order to
fit the new steps or is the new steps fitted over it, if so is the front mud flap removed
as the new steps come with front mud flaps.
Any information or fitting instructions would be gratefull.

Running out of fuel
in Discovery Forum
Posted
Hi
Just a follow up on the problem I had with the TD5 seems to run out of fuel, diffcult to restart, lots of smoke on restart, and then cuts out again.
New injector loom fitted cleaned red plug no change
New fuel pump fitted no change
New fuel filter and housing with new air bleed valve. no change
New crank sensor fitted no change
New injector washers and seals fitted no change.
The problem turned out to be the fuel regulator I did not change this as some guys on the forum said " there is no need to change the reulator
unless it's leaking" so i asumed mine was ok as no leaks where visible. The guys at my local Land Garage say the the regulator sticks and
looses fuel pressure. So if any one has this problem and looking at the forum there seems to be a few. Check the regulator first, before spending
loads of money on spares that's are not need.
Can I suggest that anyone who has resolved any problems, post the reslts of the fix on the forum, so we can all see what the problem was
and how to fix it.
