Im in the middle of giving the winch a bit of a service, and was going to change the brushes, now do you just thwack the end off the motor housing with a hammer? ive given the thing a few exsploratory hits, but not a lot happening so before i get the big guns out and do some serious hitting i thought i had better find out if im going to damage something.
As always thanks for any help.

Im looking for a portable 12v tyre inflator, compressor, just looked on ebay
and there seems to be a shed load of them, not much up on the portable ones,
but need one to tie me over, must be able to inflate 35 inch tyres, not
to worried about speed, though few minuites rather than standing next to the truck
and finishing war and peace would be good.
thanks

After a quick scan around uk mails web site, looks like they will take batteries, so thanks again for info
-
Mine were sent with UK mail, approx £23 from Gloucester to Manchester for 2x batteries.
Thanks for that, will give them a bell
-
Thanks
That would be handy

I sent a duff gel battery via royal mail a few years ago.
They have just changed what they will and will not carry now, including a lot of engine parts or anything that has come into contact with oil and petrol
-
Thanks for reply, will give them a go see what they say

Does anyone know of a courier company that will deliver a battery?, not the wet sort it's an optima, spent yesterday trying to explain to various courier's the differance, but none wanted to know, any ideas?
thanks

If the gauge pipe connection is after the turbo, say in the inlet manifold, it will read as described, just showing positive pressure.
If the gauge pipe connection is before the turbo a negative pressure reading will show a restrictive air intake, which could be blocked filter, collapsing pipework, restrictive snorkel assembly (if fitted).
If you only buy one gauge you might like to create two connection points, before and after the turbo, blanking off the unused one. This means you can 'prove' the unpressurised intake system whenever you feel the need. Note that you need to drive the vehicle to generate maximum boost to collect this proof, but once done you can revert to measuring boost pressure 'all the time', until the next change to the intake system.
1 psi = 2.036021 Inches of Mercury.
1 Inch of Mercury = 0.4911541 PSI.
HTH.
Now that is a good idea, thanks very much for input

One that reads vacuum will still work fine, it will just never drop below 0.
Thanks,
-
So one that only reads pressure then, thanks for replys.

Does the TD5 have a throttle flap?
Typically diesels do not, and thus never run with a vacuum, though some EGR systems use a throttle flap to create a vacuum in the inlet manifold to draw exhaust gasses in.
Not 100% but no idon't think so

Right after doing a bit of a search, and not really finding what i was after, here goes.
At the risk of seeming thick will a turbo boost gauge that reads in -in hg (vacum) and + psi
work on a td5? only ask as 1 i dont know and 2, ive asked a couple of people and been given both yes and no answers
ie it will read pressure but not vacum

Anyone?
Can't find nowt on t'internet, need to know as want to order a y piece to go into the block, looks like will have to join
alro and ask on there, which is were i found out about this in the first place, though they dont mention the size of fitting.
-
Can anyone tell me what the size of the fitting on the block end of the turbo drain pipe is
please? looks to me like AN-8 jic fit? though ive not taken it off yet.
Also is there any reason stopping me from running a drain from a provent 200 filter into it?
Seen it done on the Oz LR forums but thought ask here
thanks
-
Thats what i thought, worth a post though just to cofirm, thanks anyway

Can anyone let me know if it is possible to connect the od11 interface with one of the plx kiwi wifi etc
that you can use with a smart phone?
engine in question is a late 2004 td5 defender unit
Ive had conflicting answers some say no, others that land rover changed the obd11 interface on there vehicles
so that they can be read by more diagnosic equipment, though i very much doubt it.
Thanks

Same as I did with my front arches, just cut the inners off the standard arches, if you want to revert back, front set used of eBay are cheap enough

Axia alloys make good light bar mounts
www.axiaalloys.com
We're I got mine from, mainly roll cage mounts, but come in many tube sizes,
They are in the States though, good people to deal with and very quick to ship
-
Thanks for that, think I will invest in one
-
Has anyone fitted one? was looking on one of the Oz defender forums the other night, seems they swear by them, mainly
seem to be the Provent 200.
So question is are they really needed on a Td5 defender, didn't want to invest in one if im just throwing more money away.
