  1. Forgive the opportunism Jake . but im selling mu 110 on ebay which has all the bits and more

Land Rover 110 TD5 'The Beast" . 35 inch &Huge Extras Eats shoots hunts anywhere

Loved masterpiece of Devon4x4 work, thats why i bought

Would suit daily use , since drives well, and off raoding pretty unstopaable but id want to protect her from damage having sida that..passengers . two seats . so youd have to put seats in rear

Otherwise .  id spend 5-7 on TD5 or 300 providing in good condition and add bits as you have funds

  2. I need to replace the cappings on my 90 truck cab - the bits where the sticks go in at the front/cab end of the tub.

They look L shaped and fit beneath the truck cab rear back - when i get the cab off I WANT TO HAVE THE CAPPINGS READY TO FIT BUT DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY SHOULD LOOK LIKE..

Its a 1987 year but i think the tub is from another year- it was a hardtop before i think..

How do i know what to order or look for in salvage?

Is there a place with photos or a past thread?

    thanks all

  3. I am wondering about the usefulness of POLYETHYLENE FOAM SHEET for use as sound dampening material in my Defender.

Locally (southern Oman) it is difficult to find the materials I want, but I can buy the above (3/8 inch thick). Would it be suitable/effective/useful? I envisage using it in certain areas of my vehicle (e.g. second-row passenger footwell), in combination with rubber sheet.

Have a look at this youtube clip- product looks great -

I am planning to use on my truck cab- under wheel arches stuff looks interesting too

  4. There's a post in the archive detailing the operation of the hazard switch.

The indicators and hazards use the same relay, and are both routed through the hazard switch.

Often, wiggling the hazard switch will get your indicators back up and running.

I have odd light problem too- sorry to barge in on thread but do you guys know the answer to this?

As of yesterday I have no full beam function if push stalk forwards, but if want to full beam to flash, it will let me if pull back

Does any one know what is going on here please?

    Thanks

    Chrisp

  5. Nigel- I need a pair but as to their value- I would say 200 for both at top ebay price- a single door push button went last week for 99 and 2 series doors for only 45..god value

I am likely to be interested but since am trying to sell stuff to buy parts- a 90 roof and rear door incl sunroof

and sticks and top - part top doors to cover cab - (I have truck cab)

However ebay could be best bet

I would offer about 100-120 at present

PM me if you think it worth talking

  6. Gromit - what a lovely post- if you are not a writer - perhaps 9 momths of writing might yield a book or screenplay?

What a happy day today was. I drove my 110 off the driveway today, where it had been sitting immobile, ignored and unloved for 9 months.

During this period, it was home to: a cat and kitten (who thought it was a cozy glass house in the sun), a dead bird (who also probably thought it was cosy, till he met the cats), some unknown animal that knocked over my carefully placed bellhousing nuts, and finally 2 birds, who were freed by me before the cats woke up.

To back track, 9 months ago, the gearbox was making terminal noises, so I swapped it for another one. A day later, the other one let some smoke out and stopped working altogether, so I took it out, put it in the garden and went into the house in a huff.

So disgusted was I with the whole thing, I went off and bought another car, somthing fast, something german, something rear wheel drive, something slightly classic.

What a time I had. I experienced instant heat in the mornings, speeds way in excess of 65mph, handling (someone had explained it to me once, but I never really understood it) , electrics that worked 2 days in a row, seats that were dry after thunder storms; I could go on.

All this hedonism did not go un noticed by the 110.

It would stare at me through the living room window, with its water filled headlights and snarl its dented bonnet. Being camped in the middle of the driveway, it blocked anyone else parking at my house. It got in the way as I struggled to the door with the shopping, it hid tools. It even had the cheek to knock me over once (possibly twice) as I returned home late one night from the pub. There was only so long this mutual disdain could continue.

Then one day in town, I meet vinny in his 90. There he was, sitting all smug cause his truck was working, and wondering where my 110 was. Well I don't know if it was inspiration or pure jealousy, but that afternoon a call was made to Mr. Ashcroft for a recon kit for my gear box.

The following week was spent, like a child with lego, on the floor of the shed, surrounded by gears, springs and levers, assembling them in various combinations that, while looked nice, but were of little functional value.

At the end of a week of playtime, with the box assembled, I discovered that while refitting the selector yoke, one could dislodge the reverse selector inside the box. You kept that one quiet David! With the box apart again and the reverse selector refitted, today was spent refitting the innards to the 110.

A few hours later, the 200tdi fired up on the first turn of the key. The clutch worked, gears worked, brakes and steering still worked, so I went for a spin.

As I went for a test drive with no floor and deafened by the gearbox and engine, bird poo on the dash, cat hair on the seats and a dead bird somewhere under the rear seats, I suddenly realised it had been too long since I'd sat with my elbow out the window, trundling down the road.

Is there a point to this story? Sometimes you just need a break from your loved one. Then sometimes you need just a mate to give you a kick up the ar*e.

Ralph, I've some vibration in my inverter. would you have a part number for a 37" slave poly sprocket anti-roll switch with ruts?

    Thanks,

  7. Hello - I have a 2 inch lift and am running 235/85/16's - macho fromt, colway my rear and once the stops were adjusted they seem fine

i assume the consumption with mt tyres is higher but they look great

    PS

also- have found goodrich at's at reasonable price on black circles so they may be next replacement despite sacrifice of mud traction - 105 incl vat fitted

    cheers chrisp

  8. Well Nic - you certainly have started a good discussion - and I admit, that I have wanted to fit amber beacons to my 90 truck cab - and without any irony - i agree with FF-only for vapid muppet reasons - to look more authoritative - shameless? perhaps

I have seen off road marshals with them and thats where the desire started - since thee posts and Calum's points i am more thoughtful about whether they are such a good idea.

    Anyway

A story - a friend in my local LR club went out in the last lot of snow and spent sunday night all night pulling folk out of ditches in leafy surrey - he also got given a load of cash - to have a drink by grateful drivers

I can guarantee that his insurer or the rescued drivers' - would not have supported this action and that he also contravened statutory legislation

so he did them a service and drove some old ladies home too - but do we as a community condone or condemn this ?

if we were a true lobby group e.g. like Ramblers ass. we might decide to focus our attention on reasonable freedoms - not cavalier but not the kinds of law making now that confines - amber beacons are not worth fighting for but does this forum think there are things that are worth it?

Chrisp (who bought old green Nic's doors off him )

  9. I have heard that this is the case but when I went to get a price for a set from a scrapyard they wanted silly money for these seats - presumably they have heard of this upgrade

Saab 9000 seats fit - but undersides need new fittings - so not good for battery and such - v comfy but high and judging from pics on recaro's and my recall of Range Rover seats - alos v high - not great if 6 foot

Recaro seats look good - do they squeeze out space for a mid seat though?

  10. I have a 2007 Defender 110 with utility back which I am fitting out for a long expedition which will take me from the Arctic down through Africa and eventually to Australia. Having spent this winter suffering from constant condensation in the rear of the truck I am now determined to insulate all the accessible body panels and possible underneath the roof headlining. What I have in mind is to buy a number of 12mm closed cell foam camping mats and stick them to the metal panels using contact adhesive. Then cover this with the thin “carpet” type material used to line motorhomes. Has anyone undertaken a similar insulation of their truck and can offer any advice or alternatives. In particular I would be interested to hear how effective their solution was and whether it coped with both the extreme cold and heat which I will be encountering. Also anyone know where I can purchase the lining material used in motorhomes?

    Thanks

    Tom

A thought? Expedition companies will share expereince with you - or

You could contact Bellargio - and ask them for advice - they fit for Sultan of Brunei - but I am sure they might be a good soul and pass on any expereince - my opinion - so not that valuable- is that the matt would still with carpet hold moisture

Someone will know - good luck - sounds great

  11. I've seen some discussion of bulkhead replacement and some people have had theirs galvanised before fitting it. Roughly how much does it cost to get this done?

Hello - I was quoted something over £200 by Gigglepin and have basically stalled since overall cost for me is almost value of the truck.

just keep hoping the next MOT tester has weak eyesight- is this a rolleyes moment?

    chrisp

  12. i would look for a better one £2500 seems alot for a 2.5n/a

I agree - my 90 - a 1987 with brand new 300 tdi 2004 is a rcuk cab too with rocksliders and stufff - yes of course it has corrosion but despite the appeals of atruck cab - i might suggest you look further - to be honest i want ta disco for comfort - but as the men say parting with my 90 seems like an amputaion - its charcater gives me a feeling of character

you may have - but why not try some clubs and see - then you can get a clearer pictutre of history etc.

    regards

    chrisp

ps if anyone knows of low cost resprayer - metallic - let me know - in kent or london area/m25

  14. In a 130/110 or td5? 90 you can put some 6x9's in the front face of the seatbox, good sound and by making them a really really right fit there isnt much disstortion at all so you get decent base.

Shame i wrote the car off otherwise i would have got a pic for you

I have them in the seat boxes and the sound - ask my wife- you can hear me coming up the street - they have not recently een underwater but have and still work!

The front grille has come off one but they are high enough - midway - so heels do not kick

    work well - go gently

    regards

  15. I am looking for a source for galvanised cappings for the tub of my 90 TD5 as mine have started to bubble. As my hardtop is going to have to come off to fit my P&P Bulkhead removal bar this seems like an ideal time to swap them.

I have found some for sale on the web but I am specifically looking for the station wagon version that does not have the sticky out bits for the bulkhead I will no longer have.

    Any suggestions?

    Galvanised like these:

    ASR1396-REAR-BODY-CAPPING-LH.jpg

But like parts AMN710160 and AMN710170.

    P

pHILLIP - mine are in need of replacement too - but mine is a truck cab - where did you find them for sale?

    thanks

  16. Indeed I do remember that snow, Walfy, chest deep drifts ! :)

The flaw in your argument regarding the water is that the hole in the top is considerably larger than the hole in the bottom even with my rubber drain removed, thus I got a steamed up screen, so I bought a snow shield and now no more steaming :)

Now, be a good chap and run along, that's quite enough bollox from you for one night :P

    Mo

Where or who supplies the rubber toggles mentioned very much earlier in trhe post - any ideas?

    Thanks

  18. Didn't attempt that, couldn't see any way of using the actuator to operate the lock.

I suppose I could attatch the linkage to the little lock tab, but I'll have to think about it.

What a great post - its not a job i need now but fantastic to put all including expletives -

Is there any post that have the same for rubbing down and prpping a 90 for brush painting - i do not know where to sart - what to remove what to mask etc and what to use to prep -

    any suggestions PM or reply

    cheers

  19. Hi - two questions

    1.

since seeing a vesuvious orange 90 on ebay i wondered if i can only use a brush or roller ? will such a colour look pretty bad - body work on my 90 is green lane rough plus odd bits of corrosion
