  1. Hi

I have four optima batteries, two red, two yellow. They are about eight years old and a bit tired.

My question is, would an 'intelligent' charger (probably expensive) bring them back to life.

They take a charge, but don't last. Wouldn't winch much without engine running, if you know what I mean.

Whats the best way of checking battery condition? They show 12.5v when charged but that doesn't reflect on its 'oomph', (good technical term there).

Would I just be wasting my money, a battery is just dead when it has reached the end of its life?

I like the Optimas, purely because two fit easily into battery box but they are expensive.

Can of worms time, what are the alternatives?

    Cheers

  2. Hi

I have a 1996 110 300tdi which used to be a van and is now a station wagon. No anti roll bars.

I would like to replace the springs with genuine LR springs and I was wondering if anyone could suggest LR part numbers.

Except for annual summer holiday camping, she is normally fairly empty.

Would the springs from under the current station wagon do? My local LR dealer doesn't have much of a clue when it comes to defenders.

    Cheers for any help

  3. Hi

My timing belt snapped on the disco 200tdi in my 90 last week. Took the rocker cover off and could see bent rods.

Yes, I had been meaning to change the belt, learned that lesson the hard way.

My question is, what parts do you think I will be needing, is there a kit? Any good links on how to do valves etc?

Willing to give it a go, engine scrap otherwise.

Is buying a complete head off the likes of Turners a more cost effective way?

Not many second hand 200s around this neck of the woods, is a 300 viable?

Mad idea, but is a 300tdi and auto box out of a disco doable?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to think of all the options. Just got the 90 back on the road after 6 months, (bulkhead, outriggers and front roll cage), so a bit sick.

If you have been thinking of doing your timing belt, do it now!

    Cheers

  4. Hi

New to Series, so hoping someone can help me.

Got a series 3 lightweight, with overdrive. With the overdrive lever at the seatbox, which I think is disengaged, the lever will quite often jump into neutral. If the lever is forward, engaged I think, it is fine.

Is this just an adjustment issue or signs of something more serious?

    Any help would be appricated.

    Cheers

  5. Hi

Just stripped off the rear tub of my 110, (van to csw project), and the chassis is in good nick. Bit of surface rust and whatever coating was originally on it, peeling away.

My thoughts were to paint it and I was thinking of either hammeriting it or using the waxoil underseal.

Any ideas, opionions, recomendations on these products?

    Cheers

  6. Thanks for the responses.

I was hoping for a little more detail (read: idiot guide), which wire goes to where on the switch, etc.

I would also like a on/off switch beside the toggle switch (i have a master at the battery), to stop accidental operation. Whats the best way of doing it.

    cheers
