Helping a mate change some slaves and a master on an 83 S111. Please confirm fluid is Dot3 before I start pouring it in tomorrow !!
thanks..
Castrol GTLMA only as far as I know, as it does not affect natural rubber seals as normal DOT fluid might.

How do i undo this sezed screw
Apply as much force as you can with a screwdriver while your apprentice gives the drum a couple of whacks with a hammer, Don't hit it too hard but just enough to shift the rust. good luck

So will this thing bolt into a series? What kind of nasties will it do to the stock tranny and diffs? Assuming a light application of right foot :-) Will I need to carve up my galvanized chassis and bulkhead? Can you tell I need a diesel badly??

. My pics are at www.66rover.com BTW.
So where does this project stand today? I would love to learn more....these engines are cheap and plentiful.
On that topic does anyone know if the Perkins Prima can be sourced on North America? I heard it was fitted to fork lifts or boats?

I agree with Lars,
Well this is all good info, my original plan was to source a second hand 200tdi for him, he wanted to try to swap a 3.5 rrc running gear but the amount of work was a little daunting. Mounts, driveshafts, tunnel mods, ecu.......
So to get the most bang for the buck he should go 200tdi? I am thinking discovery motor as they are easier to come by and being a RHD the exhaust can be made to clear.
Any ideas?

just in the wondering stage, but the prices of discos makes this tempting to try.
I am aware the steering box will be in the path of the turbo.....has anyone found a work around? Fabricated exhaust manifold?

what size tyres are you running ?
I believe the tires are 245/75 witha plan to upgrade to 235/85, this should help I am sure, but not a cure.

correct low not changed high will be 1.2 for disco box from original 1.4 ratio (petrols had 1.6 ratio)
i think the high will be too high for your engine for normal road use, particualrly if you live in a hilly area or tow alot. it will more like having a 4spd box with 5th for motorways, but i think your new 4th through 1.2 box will be lower than old 5th therefore more revving and clutch changes on normal roads.
It's not my 110, but the owner suggests that 1st gear is basically useless in day to day motoring, so it is essentially a 4 speed now, question really is can you get better highway performance out of a 2,5 diesel with taller gears, be it t-case, tires or an overdrive? The next step would be a 2.5 turbo or a 200tdi I guess?

Did the 4.6 P38 have 4 pin diffs in both the front and rear axles or was it just one of the axles (or was it neither)?
Is a P38 diff carrier the same pattern as a RRC/ defender to allow it to be swopped over??
According to Rangerovers.net the 4 pin diffs were 1999 onwards with the 4 wheel traction control.

Yes it will fit although i am not sure it would be wise move with a 2.5NA. I have one for sale as well!!! but think you would be better of sticking with the stock 1.4 one.
My understanding is the low range is untouched but High range is higher.....not sure of the ratios?

I want to fit a higher ratio T-case to a military 2.5NA 110, I understand the discovery T-case is higher ratio and suspect it will fit, can anyone confirm? Will the 110 have enough power to use the higher ratio? the disco doner is a 4.0 Auto 1996 vintage. 110 is 1988 I believe.
Thanks!

Can anyone tell me if I must use a the taller type thermostat that engages the Oring in the housing ro can I use the flush mount type?
I pulled my current staat out as it was stuck open (likely since I bought the truck 10 years ago :-) it is a flush mount type but there is an Oring in the top of the housing....
