  1. I ended up pulling the alternator and bringing it to a local auto electric shop to have it bench tested. The alternator was fine and they were able to identify the leads on it and even tested it out with a spare external regulator right there on the bench. I used a Wells VR715 regulator, solid state and only 15 dollars.

Are you using the daihatsu power steering pump or the original Rangie unit? I am using the daihatsu but it sits very low and was wondering if the Precision and Conversion bracket for the LR pump located any differently.

  2. Question for those that have done this engine conversion, how have you wired up the alternator and regulator? Did you use the Fourtrak voltage regulator or an aftermarket one and if so which one specifically? My alternator has a 3 wire plug with a green, black and blue and white wire.

Has anyone used a different vacuum pump equipped 1 wire unit?

  3. Didn't say it was bolt-on, but it's doable. Looking at the layout on mine (109) I reckon losing 21" out of the drivetrain should be pretty easy, and that's with the long V8 bellhousing. I have a good 3-6" space in front of the engine and a long-ish rear prop, that's with a Series front end and PAS.

Mine is a SWB coil conversion with a Daihatsu 2.8 TD going in. I believe the difference in the suffix D setup is a larger front layshaft bearing and larger intermediate shaft.

  4. Does anyone know the differences in the Santana Series III gearbox/Tcase that supposedly make it stronger than the LR Suffix C boxes and Tcases. I know the ratios are the same and the Santana has the beefier "Honeycombed" case, but are their significant internal differences in strength?

  5. I just had my Series III coil conversion convereted to PS. Ad90 column and DiscoI box was used and the frame crossmember was removed and a new one fitted forward. The spring perches for the coiler complicate things a bit.
