  1. Why not bold the engine to the gearbox and find the place then. I had a conversion from v8 to Td5 and bolted the engine to my automatic and found 50mm distance to the back of the engine bay the right position. (I have the automatic of the V8 attached, and this is 50mm shorter than the Td5 one.

So engine sits 50mm back but all fits. Only small extention of the hoses to the radiator and cooler.

I didn'd want to remount the gearbox, because of the propshafts.

    cheers Theo :i-m_so_happy:

  2. I am in the race for the Truetrac type to replace the front and rear diff. This will not lock 100% but together with the central difflock it will do most. On more than one occasion it will work fine and good. There are only a fue extrem situations were this setup has it limits.

Overall I think it is relailable, simple and effective

On grass and wet land you dont have the "slip/slide" of the locked wheels from a 100% difflocker but all wheels will do there work well. Also when driving a curve, the truetrac type of locker works. as a locker cant do this without sliding/slipping wheels.

Even on tarmac you have 4x4 where you beter not use 100% lockers.

Ashcroft makes a Truetrac type one as well now. Only not for the Sallsbury.

  3. I didn't know the TC was turned off when you engage the CDL. Seems a bit counter-productive, as you'd want all the traction you can get when engaging CDL.

On the Defender TD5 it certainly keeps on working with CDL engaged...

I didn't know as welll. I had a disco II and had a manual controle fitted to the CDL meself. This way I had the TC AND CDL when I wanted. CDL did not turn my TC of. I only installed a Boden cable to the small lever on top of the central diff lock shaft.

  4. The only thing you need do is get the later propshaft from the donor td5 as it is longer than your original. Steve

That will not be the problem, as the compleet donor is next to the 1986 at the moment. (the donor has made a rollover, so the body is nacked. the techical part is partly in use in my 1986, I swaped the v8 for the Td5 and the front axle RHD for the Td5 LHD).

So no need to change the balancer or brakepedal?

    Thanks for the advice

  5. Can any one point me in the right direction?

I have an 1986 110 and a donor 2002 Td5 rear axle. Can i swap the rear axle so I have disc brakes rear? The front axle is already replaced by the front of the same 110 Td5 donor.

Do I have to replace the brake pedal or brake flued split unit (I don't know the right name) the one mounted to the bulkhead under the heater unit that divides the flued to front and rear brake lines???

Do I have to swap more?

    regards Theo

  7. For what its worth I paid a LOT less than the usual £60/£65 for the kit of 4bottles and 1bottle hardener...... If anyone is interested I'll search out the companies details

Will post the results/photos when done

Ill be very interested where you ordered it. I planning to paint the back 110 SW as well.

    Regards, Theo

  8. I was thinking of using the Discovery 2 version ACE anti roll bar, and using a valve to block the cilinder on road situation to crieate a stiff rollbar, and open the valve with small accumulator to make the cilinder move "free" in and out. The accumulator is then there to fill the cilinder and to make sure there is no air in the system. The perfect on and offroad solution. Only need a compleet anti roll bar of a discovery 2. Valve, hose conections and accumulator connection I can make my self...

  9. Thanks for the quick answer, looking for mayby even larger. Do you have same ratio diff's 3.54???

What sort of wheelarch extention you have?

My car has 2" lift Ome. but is little sag at front. will put bigger springs there.

I want still be able to do normal road usage. The Insa Turbo (simex profil) are not very stable on the road, and wear very quick.

I had 265-75R16 bfg mud before and they last....

I would like something + 33" or 34" but not to wide!!!!

  10. I am looking for a new set offroad tires, and would like to go bit bigger. Have now Insa Turbo 265/75R16 (are almost 33" tall, much bigger than my spare still unusage Bfg 265/75R16)

I want tires also drive controlable onroad.

Have anybody 255/85R16 under the discoII??? or bigger???

    Best regards Theo ;)

I think the next page is almost the same pump ZF brand

    FP4 series Impeller Pumps

    Models: 7690、7691、7692(for power steering gears)

    Features:

1.FP4 series vane pumps are a high-duty power source for vehicles'

power steering system. They have outstanding speed and discharge

performance that are applicable to the vehicles power steering

system that requires constant (specific) pump discharge for

    speed variation and overload protection.

2.This series of products are characterized by stable output

flow, wide speed range, little pressure pulsation, compact,

    free-of-external-leakage and low noise, etc.

3.The pumps are incorporated with flow control valve and safety

valve. The output flow may be specifically designed depending

on the type of engines and steering system to be used. The pressure

may be regulated by safety valve to prevent the system from

overload against pump failure and accidents.

    Scope of application:

The products are applicable to cars, light passenger cars, pick-ups

as well as carrier vehicles and engineering machineries (pump

with or without plastic oil tank are optional).

    Product model 7690 7691 7692

    Theoretical discharge capacity ml/rev. 7.2 8.5 11.0

    Dominant discharge l/min 4~8 4~10 4~12.5

    Constancy or dropping characteristic Optional

May be controlled acc. to rpm (connected to electro valve)

    Speed range/rpm 600-8000 600-6500

    Plastic oil tank

Fuel charge Positioned with pins (optional)

    About 300ml

Weight of pump (with or without oil tank)

Shell made of aluminum alloy About 1.6/1.5kg

My best gues is the ZF 74 is same as ZF FP4 7692

PS I use the ZF 74 to MM 10500lbs winch but looking for a faster option as well.

    best regards Theo
