  1. maunge tut, maunge tut...

do you have a link that humans can read.. erm i mean english speaking beings!!!

    http://www.grands-randonneurs-motorises.co...rs&id_cat=4

Search around the site you will find parts in English.

It's not a cheap event, and with the GBP being so weak it makes it even worse. Best to take the food option when booking in as it's very good.

These are normally very well run and diff locks and tyres such as Mud terrains are OK, Simex are a over kill but some do use them, a winch is/will be needed.

A noisy exhaust will/could cause problems mainly green lanes but fairly extreme one's, I take the option to start early 7.30 I think, as you find less queue's at the difficult parts.

  2. I was looking for some recommendations for a decent supplier of some steel. The sort of thing I'm after in 1 3/4" OD Clubman 500, high quality steel sheet/plate (Domex 700's been mentioned) in 3mm and 5mm and some box section (this will be structural and I'm looking for recommendations for something higher spec than ERW mild steel box but still easy to work with). Given I'm going to need significant quantities I'd like to find someone who's good value.

    TIA

  3. Yes, it looks like it is possible ....

But then, is it really possible? Any tip or trick from someone who managed to do the job?

Did one a few weeks ago, you don’t need to take cover off, Just remove cir clip, after cleaning, I wound Part No 4 back on to shaft with Allen key turning the shaft with a spacer between housing and part, 4 shaft and bearing came out with ease, hope that makes sense.

I also put a small amount of sealer in allen key hole on shaft when finished, I am sure that water gets in behind bearing and thats why it failed.

  4. So I wouldn't nbe able to use Greneral Grabber TR's in sand on African roads ??

    mike

I would Mike, as you want to sit on top of sand not dig through it, and they would be OK in snow with chains on but you can't be sure of having snow on he cros so I do it with MT's.

    Mark,

When buying a tyre check out for Snow chain size as well, if you have to have them made to fit the tyre they can be very expensive.

  5. Thanks for that, hopefully I will see you all in Zagan.

  6. Hi Peter,

what do you need? Quite a few friends of mine are competing in this years event and I know the guys from Marathonrally, so I guess I can get any information you need....shoot

    Cheers,

    Robert

    Robert,

Confirmations on places and dates would be fine, I will be on my way back from the south of Poland and can change my dates to suit probably get the last 3 days if I am lucky.

    Thanks

    Peter

  7. We will be there - taking a week to drive up then back again. Fancy a convoy Peter??

I wonder if I could enter my D*l*ca in Standard Class

It would be good to get some drivers to at least fly out and take a look - the 2009 event is in Germany and a lot easier to get to.

I think the likes of Chris Abel, Adrian Turner, Dirty Diesel should be pencilling 2009 in their diaries

    Neil,

Sounds like a plan, I am going in my Defender with my wife driving across land and will most probably camp all the way, I have a friend in Norway who I hope to see. I have no time plan yet other than to be their on time to watch the event.

  8. Hi,

I have been to Morocco quite a few time’s, if this is your first time it won’t be your last as Morocco is a fantastic country to explore.

The entry is getting better but still needs a lot of work, best point to enter is from Ceuta (which is a Spanish enclave) from Algeciras, a fast ferry 45mins top. Make sure you take duplicate’s of your paper work and if your car is not registered to you a letter from the owner with permission of use, If you need Insurance you can buy at the border for a about £40 rules change but it use to be for a max of 10days you can get it for a longer period, also you can get Dirhams on the border. Tickets for the ferry can be got very easy on the dock side go down to where the ferries are and you will find a free car park you can pop in and get a ticket, ask for an open return if that is what you intend to do.

I personally can’t see the point in driving all that way and then head for Marrakesh, you can do that for a few hundred pounds and fly in, there are so many things to do Roman Ruins Volubilis is on the way to Meknes worth a stop, remember you will be traveling slower than say in the UK so allow time to travel (fuel is available almost every where) Meknes is a good 1st and last stop point with an Ibis Hotel or a reasonable camp site.

You need to plan your route, to save you time 10 plus days is a good time to spend in Morocco any less and you will be disappointed in how little you have done.

Thing worth the trouble to see, Erg Chebbi Dunes Merzouga, Zagora , Todra Gorge Daddes Gorge, Vally of the Rose’s, Fes, Cascades of Ouzoud, Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou, Archaeological Site of Volubilis, plus loads more read up and research it will be worth it.

If you do and you should have AA cover or similar and you do have need to use it, it won’t cover Morocco and don’t let on to them that you are going to or from Morocco or they won’t cover you. AFAIK.

    Go for it.

  9. Jeff,

Was just talking to the wife about a trip to Norway over this summer so could well see you there, I will take my Landy but not compete this year.

    Peter

    Anybody interested ??

    Cheers Jeff ( Rizla 1 ) http://www.eurotrial.org/

  10. Thanks.

I had a word with Dave (Ashcroft) and he is going to sort one for me, the one I have at the moment is a std TD5 one from a Disco but I am taking my box out soon for a overhaul as the oil got a tad hot in France last week so might as well do that all at the same time.

They have the upgrade on Ashcrofts website , they did the box for me a couple of years ago with larger clutch packs and oil pump etc and it has been very good, but like every thing in this trade things move on.
