  1. Testing the glow plugs is a piece of cake. Remove them one at a time and with two pieces of wire hook up the threaded part to the negative post on the battery and the top to the positive post. The tip should glow red hot in 5 to 10 seconds (Be very careful to not burn yourself or anything else when you do this). If it doesn't, it needs to be replaced. I just swapped out 2 or the 4 plugs last week and my truck starts up fast and WAY less smokey.

  2. On the 2.5L N/A the book says 11 volts so 9.*v sounds pretty low but I'm not sure about the TD. I think the glow plug specs also call for 11v so it sounds like you are not getting all you can out of them.

Are you testing with all the plugs hooked up or are you just testing the wiring output?

  3. The frame for sure, inside and out. Bulkhead crevases and door channels too. There is a lot more to protect than just the axle finish. I'm guessing you could easily do it for less than half of what you were quoted if you did it yourself.

  4. Then get yourself the old military pdf emers and the service manuals available all over the net. Think the service man is linked from tech archive.

What site do you recommend? I hate blindly downloading stuff from the net, you never know what kind of virus your computer might acquire.
