  1. YES !! another Series saved.... :i-m_so_happy:

Nice mountain of parts you've got there, wish i had that kind of weather for a rebuild ;)

Hehe thanks, that's what it's all about right?

the mountain of parts is not mine sadly but I'm trying to get my grubby hands on as many as I can for the money :)

  2. Hi Gremlin

I sent you a PM already as I'd like to see your disc conversion, no rush though :)

There's a good crowd over on our local AWDC forum, with their help I already found petrol engine, gearbox, transferbox & overdrive! the beauty of Maltese networks hehe.

    look forward to meeting sometime

    Steve

  3. Hi all,

Warning: an over-ambitious spanner wielder has taken on a new project and advice will be requested.

I'm going to rebuild a S3, should start stripping the chassis next week and see the parts needed. I’ll be replacing all bearings, seals, bushes & rubber parts in any case.

Can I test whether the diffs are OK without opening them up?

    Pics to follow next week.

    Thanks

    Steve

  4. Hi Michele,

That makes 2 of us... though your location sounds fantastic, care to trade with a hot, loud Med island?

I've heard of a power steering system fitted to late Series 3's that attached to the exisitng steering rod, rather than to the chassis as the 90 is.

Anyone else heard of this or was my leg being pulled?

    Steve

  5. Thanks for the feedback and offers of help.

I need to think this through carefully. Having a bare chassis anything seems possible but reality bites back :)

Gremlin any chance of meeting up sometime for a look at your Landy?

    Thanks

    Steve

  6. Hi

Some parts of this has been covered in other threads which I've seen but some were quite old.

I've taken on a project S3. It's currently a rolling chassis that has been refurbished & has most panels lying loose but no engine nor gearbox.

As this will be a toy with little use I want a V8 in there and as there's no gearbox now my choice would be the R380. However I've read on other threads here that the gearlever is too far back on the R380. However if it was used on the 90 surely it can be convinced to fit a S3? I know this would mean a one-off (short) propshaft.

Also should I be OK with the Series rear diff or is it worth changing?

Maybe irrelevant but in order to keep a classic status & almost free road tax I need to keep the leaf springs. Is there anyway to fit disc brakes?

    Thanks for any thoughts
    Steve

  7. Hi all

    Great forum you have here!

I want to do the opposite of what most do and convert a soft dash coil suspension to the EAS system.

Does anyone know whether full kits are available anywhere or if I'd have to look for them used?

How hard is it to do, i.e. is the chassis able to take both or would it need cutting/welding?

    Thanks

    Steve
