  1. For an aerial to work properly it must clear the plane of the vehicle therefore it has to be higher than the tallest metal structure, generally the roof. This is why a lot of aftermarket windscreen mount aerials do not work that well.

    On my dads Series 1 I fitted a gutter mount on the edge of the windscreen and mounted the stereo and speakers in the central cubby box he made.

    Another option would be to fit a military (FFR) style whip somewhere on the body.

  2. Hi Pavel having been through this twice in the past year or so I feel I can comment on this. Discovery 200 and 300 have different windscreen fitment. The 200 uses the old fashioned seal as found on RR Classics while the 300 has a bonded in screen in effect the screen is glued in so becomes a structural part of the car. The first time I had mine replaced they cocked up the trim kit fitting so it had a bulge bottom mid screen and the top corners kept flapping when driven. Both times when removing the screen they did a cut that left some of the old sealant in place so as not to damage the paint.

  3. A large magnet 50mm x 50mm works on mine. Got it for NZ$3.00 at the local computer wrecker. Holds the step in place over some pretty rough ground but will release the step easily if needed by pushing down on it with your foot, just have to lift it back when finished.

  4. Being some 12,000 miles away the internet is the best way to order parts etc. Unfortunately my experience with ordering parts for my Discovery TDi has been very hit and miss. For some reason it is dealing with companies that end in ....ddocks that has been frustrating. Of late they are not returning enquiries about suspension lift kits, not a huge order but costly from my end. Still waiting after a month but somehow I don't think they will.

    This is a shame as ordering parts for my BMW motorbike from the UK is always a pleasant experience.

  5. You guys are far too harsh.

    This is an example of what made England the once great country that she was.

    Without people pushing boundaries and giving it a go to see what can be done nothing would ever be achieved.

    I am sure all the great inventors and designers of the world thought about there own version of a 'Monster Range Rover', yes even Leonardo Da Vinci had a few wtf designs.

    Sure it doesn't work and looks pants but now we all know it so no one will do it again like this. Hopefully someone will do an improved version and we will all go 'ahhhh thats how it should have been.'

  6. Hi Zardos I can't help you with the thread size or which on is input and which is output. But I can tell you that a bit of a search round the internet will come up with one site that says when the torque converter locks at 50mph the oil in the gearbox changes direction. I was told this when I asked a question about an external gearbox oil filter, this makes an external filter no good. Sorry can't find the link but it was one of the gearbox companies

  7. Santalars Aucklands fine.

    Great climate and famtastic for sailing.

    I work up there when necessary and if I was a smart cookie would move there for work only but can cope with the commute.

    It is a rivalry that goes back many years in this country. Basically NZ is 3 Islands, North, South and Stewart. But the country is 'socially' divided into north of Bombay Hills and south of Bombay Hills. Which means Auckland and the rest of the country.

    Still its a great country south of the Bombay Hills and north of the Bryderwyns.

    Once you travel around the South Island you will want to move there.

    Me I live as close as you can to the South Island with out being there, Wellington. A 4 hour sailing to paradise.

    As long as you did all your research and paperwork before the car left then all should be good.

  9. Hi Stephen. I too have a 300TDi Auto and yes the temp light comes on. I gather from your post that yours has come on and stayed on which would possibly indicate a faulty temp sender which I think you will find below the alternator/engine fan area of the engine. I also recall being told it is a over temperature light for the transfer box as well as the autobox? :huh:

    On my Disco the light was coming on during long hill climbs with a load on. I took the cooler out and found it to be partially blocked, trans fluid drained out very slowly. So due to an acute shortage of Land Rover transmission coolers down here I opted for an aftermarket Australian model that has at least 50% more arrear. As yet I have been unable to make the light come on again so fingers crossed

  10. Had my 300TDi done professionally and they had to remove the rear window to get a neat job. The window sits deep in the rubber and makes it hard to get the tint into place.

    They then had to remove the window again to seal it properly and retint as it got damaged.

    As an aside has anyone had the Alpine windows successfully tinted. They are the only windows with the exception of the windscreen that are not tinted and the tinters would not do them.

  11. i've got one of the trim panels on each side instead of seats: very useful they are 2. The unfortunately seem to be very rare and i got a spare of ebay this year to replace one that had cracked.

    Mine too had cracked on both covers. To stop the crack getting any bigger I drilled a small hole at the beginning of it. I then glued some 3mm ply to the inside of the covers. This has made the covers very strong and still flexible enough if they need to be removed.

  12. I have just finished off blanking off my EGR. Previously I had a ball bearing jammed into the vacuum operating pipe to stop it working. My 300TDi is EDC.

    In order to fit the Airflow snorkel I have had to do a bit more work.

    I needed to fit a non EGR bottom radiator hose which has the manifold heater pipe come from the inside of the pipe bend rather than the outside. This also meant replacing the intercooler hoses with non EGR ones so I took the oppotunity to fit silicon ones. While all of these where off I had space to completely remove the EGR and make and fit a blanking plate. All of this new space means I now can move the airfilter box and throttle body over about 50mm wil allow the snorkel pipe to be fitted into the engine bay.

    A lot of mucking about to fit a snorkel but hopefully worth it.

    That standard air intake fills up with dust very quickly when driving on dirt roads.

  13. The fat O ring is just to show a sealing possibility. The brass plug is laying in the tool box just in case its ever needed. I have a selection of O rings again from B&Q so may try a thinner one or even a fibre washer when the time comes.

    But I think replacing my plastic plug will be a long way off, I'm now using the red long life anti-freeze so the plastic plug only has to be removed once every five years, and as the anti-freeze has only been changed three times over the last eleven years the existing plug still looks as new. :)

    I reckon thats just tempting fate :( . The one on the engine on my 300tdi cracked whilst being driven, luckily I stopped around the corner from a brass fitting wholesaler. Bugger of a job removing the damaged plastic one. Now both are replaced with proper brass plugs.

  14. I don't think the "Cat" for TDi's is a catalytic converter like found on petrol engines.

    It is called a particulate filter which I believe is just fine mesh that traps the soot from burnt diesel.

    Removing this makes the engine breath freer.

    I had the particulate filter removed and have just had the rear box removed as it was rusting out the back from the exhaust on my 300TDi. Not much extra noise. Just running the standard centre box.
