  2. hi to every one and merry crimbo..

ok so here goes 200tdi discovery coming back from town the other day changing from 2nd to 3rd and nothing no drive checked other gears and nothing wont select anything so changes the transfer box to lock diff and low box and nothing still so gets it towed home by friend and checked linkages on top of transfer box they all seemed ok it was odd as there was no bang or grating everything was fine does any body know what the problem is or is it another gearbox to be fitted.

it does seem as though something is going round in box just wont select anything.

    cheers

  3. changed head gasket as it blew between cylinders 3 & 4 replaced head gasket everything fine for 4 month now head gasket blown in same place as well as between 1 & 2 anyway to the point when i was taking the head back off i thought the head bolts were not tight enough i did what the haynes manual said but turning a torque wrench 60 degress then another 60 to me(after the initial tightening) it seems a bit vague has any body got the final torque setting for this can any one help got the head skimmed this time

    cheers warren

  4. I have a 200 tdi with the same tyres 235/85/16 i also have that problem although i have been told the disco transfer box i have (1.222) is geared too low with the tyres i have will sit all day at 60mph but hit a hill i have to drop it into 4th gear and rev its nuts off to get up the hill once on a stright back into 5th and seems ok but i rarely get the thing over 70mph on motorway too bloody noisy i go deaf after half hour of that i think i may have a similar problem but i have been told its the gearing

  5. Test light.

    Headlights switched on.

One wire from test light to Blue wire from headlight switch. The other wire from test light to earth.

Does the test light work ?

If no the new switch is faulty.

    If yes ...Proceed.

    Headlight switych on.

Test light to Blue/Red (dip) wire at dip switch.

Does the test light light up.

If no, Dip switch is faulty.

If yes. Check the Blue/white the same way.

    Does headlight flash work ?

There you go. That should occupy you for all of half an hour. Then answers please.

    mike

yes both wires are live when switched on and the headlight flash dont work either but the wire goes live....

also didn,t mention this previously but the oil light on dash is always on even if i disconnect it from the switch....

checked voltage coming from the blue and red wire out of that voltage transformer it reads 0.06

everything points to that in my book but i am useless when it comes to electrics

  6. here goes the full dashboard i have taken out to gain access to all the wires.

dip beam and main beam not working looked in the haynes manual page 13.15 (dip beam circuit) and i am thinking that the voltage transformer is at fault

the light switch is brand new side lights come on ok as does the fog light, the relay behind the dash is working ok as it clicks when i switch the lights on this is a small relay next to the big coloured one but i have no power to the fuses that go to headlights what so ever

has any body come across this before.......

or any body got any ideas ......

  7. If you have a Def diff it will fit both front and rear. No need to turn upside down. In fact I don't think you can turn it over. As long as the spline count is the same all should be well

it is going to come of a M reg disco thats waiting to be scrapped

  8. can somebody please verify what i have heard can you swap the front differential with a back differential just by turning it upside down, been to morocco on a off road trip with a few friends and unfortunately the front diff bearing has a bit of a wobble and oil has leaked out but my 21 year old 90 got me home ok i have been offered a rear diff and told just turn it upside down and it will be ok

  9. As FF says as long as the air is going from in front of the radiator (Outside the vehicle) to behind it (inside the engine bay) then it doesn't matter whether the fan is sucking or blowing to achieve it... Fan in front of the radiator would need to blow, or a fan behind the radiator would need to suck- or for real over kill... one in front blowing and one behind sucking (oh er missus  )

cheers both answered my question my fan is in between the engine and radiator so it needs to suck i will nip outside and swap the wires round on fan motor

  10. Found a great company for all your eezi awn tents and bits and loads more

    www.touring-gear.com

chap called Mark Brooks very helpfull replied very quickly with prices and delivery it certainly was pleasure to do buisness with

for all you people out there this is the place to purchase eezi-awn products with no messing....

  11. I purchased a damaged Eazi Awn RTT last year that had been driven under a low carpark barrier. After alot of faffing around with the local dealer I called the factory in South Africa and ordered the parts direct.

The telex transfer was done in USD because they couldn't work with our local UAE currency...but other than that it was painless. The new PVC cover, replacemnt ladder bits and a single strut arrived by parcel post within 2 weeks.

The guy in SA first told me to deal with my local agent but after I explained the situation of dealing with dumpties he was quite happy to deal directly with me.

cheers think this is the road i will go down first,, you have heard the saying, i'll speak to organ grinder not the monkey...

  12. Bought an Eezi-Awn tent Parts missing are the rods to hold the windows open on each side and the fly sheet that fits over the top of tent phoned and emailed a couple of companies but none are forth coming wht doesn,t anybody help ya there response is i quote "we will have to phone Eezi Awn in Africa" is that hard after all these people are distributors it is there job you would think they would be gratefull for the enquiry as i would place the order as soon as.

All the eezi awn Distributorsin the UK (Scrapiron racing hint hint) get of your backside and get your job done !!!

And to those copanies i emailed thanks for nothing

Anyway less of the moan does anyone know were to get these parts i require pref in the UK with a sensible attitude towards your customers needs as i got told over the phone i quote "What you bought that for its only half the tent" what the hell is it to do with them i just want the spares not an arrgument on wether or not i should have bought the tent arrogant T****R he was.

any way cheers for reading and can anyone help

    warren

  13. Yes & it's a really fun job to fit, did it recently.

items 5 & 6 on this diagram. item 5 is self adhesive & fits to the top of the windscreen frame & item 6 slides into the roof channel & is meant to sit immediatly behind the screen frame seal [5]

    hth :D

    cheers

    another question

the bolts that go through the big holes that fasten the side panels to the tub what part no.s are them old ones need cutting off and new ordering.

  14. 1987 defender fitted with 200tdi engine that doesnt really matter so here goes :-

when switching to main beam the n/s doesn't work, now the problem checked the voltage in the blue and grey wire reads approx 10v to 11v with engine not on, now me thinking that its ok live feed there but as i connect it to the bulb it drops to 0 volts  , i have the earth wire straight to body with others from idicator and side light and they all work ok o/s works fine

Is it worth running a wire from the other side to feed them both

    cheers

    warren
