  1. Hi Steve

I've had a kenlowe on my 90 for the last two years with no troubles and I aint shy of the water. I know what you mean about the fixings but they work fine, you can always fab a mounting bracket as you would mounting any non standard fan.

    Cheers Dave :D

  2. I've had something similar happen, it turned out to be wear in the cage, where the pin holding the planet gears had worn the holes in the cage oval. Most of the time it was ok, but sometimes especialy when changing from forward to reverse or visaversa the diff whould lock up.

    Cheers Dave

  3. Does anyone know what happened about these seats? Steff? Ive seen some QT seats in a challenge truck on the three peaks and they looked good as they were thin and could be pushed a fair way back in a truck cab but no sign of seats of any type on the QT web site!

I was thinking the same thing. Didn't QT do a direct replacement challenge seat for the defender, like Steve said no sign of them on the web site.

  4. nice one orange.

The Lardcruiser seems to pick up more traction from the rear going in than the front, and I am wary of using the front in many situations for fear of blowing CVs.

Talking of CVs he doesn't seem to mention uprated units anywhere- so you're going to need to budget a few hundred extra ££ to make the lockers reliable enough that you aren't worrying about blowing CVs every 5 minutes!

I think he has the KAM CVs as he mentions replacing the stub shaft. Which are designed to be a weak link and easily replacable by unbolting the drive flanges.

    Cheers Dave

  5. Im amazed and dont quite believe it to be honest but a bag of beads in each front wheel has taken the truck from trying to rip the steering out of your hands at 40-50mph to a perfectly still steering wheel, Not even a shudder, better than ever!

I know what you mean Steve. Everyone I told what I was doing thought I was barking. I had my doubts, but it works really well, better than normal balancing wieghts, becasue they adapt to changes in the wheel and tyre. Beadlock rims will carry alot of mud, I was amazed how well it drove coming home last sunday after playing in the mud.

    Cheers Dave :i-m_so_happy:

So good I've driven it to and from work all week and only got round to cleaning the mud out of the rims to day

  6. I've been running with them for over a week, and it works, very noticable at speed, much smoother and no scarey moments. Even after off roading, drove home on sunday after playing in the mud, wheel rims caked in mud. Normally horrible to drive, hardly noticable.

    Cheers Dave :D

  7. Well I've done it. Put 10 ounces of BBs [got them from a local sport shooting and hunting shop] into each of my tyres, took the wheel off, pulled out the valve, broke the inner bead [you don't want to take the bead lock ring off, all those nuts and bolts] and just poured them into the tyre. Pop the bead back on, stick the valve back in and reinflate, half hour job done. What do you know it seems to work, only driven home from work after fitting them this evening. First impressions are good, took it down the M5 flat out, no wobbles or vibes and the tyre noise seems less. I'm interested to see what its like in the morning, I get the flat spot effect after the trucks been stood over night and it usally takes a few miles to warm the tyres up.

Will let you know how it go's

    Cheers Dave :D

  8. And very true. DO NOT forget to disengage the PTO and/or the free spool clutch before driving off. I know what happens too

I also know what happens. Luckly the hook was clipped on to one of the brush wires that run from the top corners of the bull bar to the front off the cage, as I pulled away load ping and the 6mm brush wire snaps. Would have done horrible things if attached to the cage, try folding its self in half.

    Cheers Dave :(

  9. I don't know how much BB's are but I have just bought some Dynabeads which are ceramic (More info at www.innovativebalancing.com) at about £5 a corner from Scrapiron. I will be running double beadlock rims & creepy crawler tyres but unfortunately I'm not fitting them till next weekend so can't comment until then if they do the job though I will post the results.

    Pete

Interesting site, usefull chart showing different tyre sizes and how much weight to use. My 36" simex need 10 ounces each. I can buy enough BBs for £5 to do all five tyres. I will give it a go and report my findings

    Cheers Dave :D

  10. I like it, just the job for removing engines, very handy.

Easy to knock up an A frame that quickly mounts to the front bumber, hang a snatch block of it, a couple of 5 ton rachet straps running back to the front corners of the cage, axle stands under the front bumber to limit the suspension compression, and you've got yourself a handy little crane.

But remember lifting is a whole different ball game than winching.

    Cheers Dave :D

  11. Awesome, Ive had it on for a while now in various forms but this last build (on to top of the drop arm as in the other thread) is head and shoulders the best, It even drives tidy on the road now because you have a smooth, constant feel to the steering that reacts far quicker rather than the lumpy sort of double stage feeling that was there before due to the lost movement in the ram as the drag link flopped over before. As for ram if you know what dimensions you need you should be able to get one made up for about £70-80

May do that, as for dimensions the stroke of the ram I asume must be equal to or greater than the distance the end of the drop arm travels from lock to lock. Its choosing the size of the cylinder bore and rod diameter, to big and the ram will be to slow to react, to small it will lack power. what size is yours? if its not to personal a question.

    Cheers Dave

  12. Thanks very much Bill; that's a great help. :)

The only bit I'm not clear on is how the lever-operated dog clutch for the winch is operated. When you say about slowly releasing the clutch, is that the car's transmission clutch or a separate lever inside the cab that engages the PTO drive to the winch?

    Mike

    :)

On my truck I have a fairy 525 pto winch, the dog clutch is engaged by pulling a lever that protrudes through the seat box between the hand brake lever and the gearbox tunnel.

An excellent winch, if a bit slow, but will pull all day even supmerged in mud or water, very relible as long as you grease the UJs regularly

    Cheers Dave

  13. I've found several UK sources for daisy BBs on ebay, not expensive, so I'm going to give it a go. Can't make it any worse, I swear I can feel the wheel bearings breaking up some days. Also surposed to help with the flat spot effect you get when the trucks been stood for a while.

    Hey Steve

How's the hydro assist working out? Still trying to source a suitable ram for mine.

    Cheers Dave

  14. Hi All

Got my self a couple of 4 bolt PAS boxes from my local breakers, I've fitted one to my truck, much better than my old 6 bolt box. The other box I'm going to drill and tap for hydro assist. I'm after information on dismantling and reasembling the box, I've done few searches on this and other forums but not found anything. Can anyone help?

    Cheers Dave :)

  15. Went to my parents for lunch today. We have two dogs [staffys], anyway the new one we've only had for two months [7 yr old bitch named BJ], she decided to take a dis like to my mums dog, so I put the dogs back in the truck. I came out 1 1/2 hours later to find the passenger seat torn to shreads. I now have no dogs  they're the girl friends dogs. The seats are black vinyl cobra monaco bucket seats, Going to cost about £160 to get a new one. Anyone know of a vehicle trimmer in the Exeter area who'd make a decent job of repairing my seat for a reseaonable price?

    Cheers Dave :(

PS. dogs to a good home

  16. Any one used Mc Gill Motorsports joints and thier neoprene boots? Thinking of giving them a go, if the boots are any good I can't see a reason why the joints shouldn't last as long as a standard TRE.

    Cheers Dave :D

  17. I finished off my new beadlock rims yesterday, wurst part of the job, torking up the 160 nuts and bolts, makes you quite dizzy. Looking forward to sunday and trying them out, last time out broke a bead climbing out of a river and had to change the wheel in the middle of the freezing water, must get some welly's.

    Seasons grettings to everyone

    Cheers Dave :D

  18. Is the site still ok for ATs? If so, I may just be able to make it down there. I would love to get some off roading in this holiday.

Last time I went it was very slippery, I think you might struggle a bit with AT,s. Best bet is to call Martyn and check on the conditions.

    Cheers Dave :D

  19. It's a great little site, not been for a month. Been welding on some beadlocks since breaking a bead climbing out the river in huntsham woods, had to change the wheel in the middle of the freezing river. Looking forward to sunday and trying them out.

    Cheers Dave :D
