Hi, I'm sorry I can't be of any assitance here, but I too am about to replace my gearbox (with a secondhand unit from e bay). I have a standard 2.6 / 6 Cylinder 109" safari. The Gearbox crunches into 2nd and a little in 3rd too. I have a few questions for the experts that I'd really appreciate your help with:
1. Does a box straight out of a series 3 2.25 / 4 cyl bolt straight in?
2.

Hi, I need to replace my 6 cylinder g/box; it grinds into 2nd and pops out of 1st on the over run. Can I simply buy a good standard S3 box, and swap over the bell housing from my tired box, and bolt it back up?
Thanks

I have a similar query relating to tyre size.
I have a 1981 Series 3 109" Safari, currently on 265/75/16 on white 8 spokes, with standard leaf springs. I also have a set of 1 Ton rims, that I'd like to put 9.00 x 16 / 255 x 16 tyres on and fit to the Safari. I know the 1 Tons had extended spring hangers / dumb irons and different (ENV) axles, but does anyone know if I would have any problems with this wheel tyre combo on my otherwise standard 109 LWB?
I don't know the offset of the 1 Ton rim, but I reckon the 900 x 16 tyre is only about 3 inches taller than the tyres currently fitted. I'm afraid to lift it, as I understand it causes problems with the prop shaft articulation and / or axle rotation?
Any advice greatfully received!

I'm new to the forum, but have had a 1973 standard lightweight for about 15 years. The thing is its been in a garage for about the last 8 while a strange woman started hanging around the place, and then small people started apperaing in my house, depleting me of any cash or time....
Anyway - I went to see it the other day. It was reluctnat to move at all so I persuaded it with a rope, which got it rolling. I checked the peddle pressure and the clutch pedal is absolutely solid.
Any suggestions as to the likely cause? I want to get the old girl fired up and MOT'd and start having some fun again.
Gearbox won't select gear while engine is running

Hi, I'm sorry I can't be any help here, but the horror story above has scared me!
I too need to change the gearbox on my standard 2.6 / 6 Cylinder 109" Series III. It pops out of 1st, crunches into 2nd always, and sometimes into 3rd too, (4th is fine though)so not a lot going for it! I'm planning on gambling on a used box from e bay, but I'd really appreciate some advice from the experts if you wouldn't mind?
1. Will a standard SIII 2.25 / 4 cylinder box bolt staright in? (I've got it in my mind they may have different bell housings, and if so what extra will I need to do?)
2. I was planning to replace a clutch kit at the same time for good measure while I'm there, but the above story has scared me. What clucth kit should I use, I cant find a clucth kit specifically listed for the 6 cylinder / 2.6, but should I assume its a standard series clutch? Any part numbers / sources would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance
Jon
