  1. Hi all

I have just replaced the head gasket on my 300 tdi defender, ive nearly got it all back together to find that somthing is stopping my engine from rotating. I can turn the engine over by hand until you can feel somthing collide then jam the engine, it is the same in both direction and always at the same position. Could i have got some of the headbolts in the wrong location, so much so that they extra length is protruding onto somthing??? Is this possible??? I will be stripping it down tomorrow if noone can shed any light on it.

    Thanks

  2. As JST said

So Long as you havent done anything with chassis (if you have got it yet) speek to Alistair) im sure he will sort you out and like said they will build you a chassis complete with mounts for a NOR cage, it would be much better than compromising cage and safety by trying to work round it.

  3. A few months ago (could be longer) there was a post about an electronic unit that was from what i can remember a multi purpose guage with egt, water temp, oil temp, boost pressure etc. This was al built into a single unit, i cant find the post now can anyone point me in the right direction!!!!!

    Thanks

  4. Well ive managed to start the starting problem out it was a poor earth from the starting relay. Could any one tell me wether the relays above transmission tunnel are connected with sidelights main and dippes headlights??? or has anyone any body had similar experience of problems with lights like me. It has me stumped after spending hours trying to sort it out.

    Thanks James

  5. Thanks All for the replies.

I should have said although this has been built on a new chassis, it was running before it was stripped and at the moment has no alterations to the wiring, as far as i am aware anything that was unplugged hasbeen plugged in. The ecu has been sorted to run without a 10as unit so that should be ok. Is there a starter relay in the ingnition system???? if so where abouts??? All the info i have on he td5 wiring is 250 miles away so is causing a shed load of hassle!!!!

Any body with any suggestions gratefully recieved

    Thanks

  6. Hi all

I am in the process of building a challenge truck. I have tried to start the truck today and hit a few problems. Basically when i turn the ingnition switch to start the vehicle, the intank pump runs but the starter does not engage. I have shorted the terminals on the starter and started it like this and it ran absolutely fine.

The ignotion switch works and tested it is throwing power towards the starter, but what happens after the switch???? Is it comtrolled ny the ECU???? when tested there is no power at the starter from the ignition??

Any help greatly appreciated many thanks James

  7. Thanks for the reply i really should have used the searh facility!!!!

Im Thinking of trying to mount it on thr otherside of the rear cross it might mean i have to chop the rear tub up a bit but im not bothered about that. Have you added extra triangulation to the hoop if not hows it faired?????

    Thanks James

  8. Hi

Im looking for advice from those with more experience than me!!!!!!!

Im currently building a 100" tray back and want to fit a centre winch, Which winches are suitable for this????? The cheaper the better, but i want somthing that will work without issue on the few occasuions that i will require it.

  9. The problem with arbs heavy duty airline is that if anything gets up in there and pulls on the pipe it is likely to rip the bulkhead fitting out of the diff casing, to repair this neds an axle strip down. Now while i appreciate that the push fittings arent ideal, the simplest and easiest solution to them is to fit a straight push fit connector in the airline about 6 - 8 inches from the diff housing, if anything gets caught up in the pipe it will pull this straight connection apart, so long as youve got some spare push fit connectors it takes about 30 seconds to repair and youve got a locker to use for the rest of the day!!!!!!!

  10. Noirth Off Road have extended flexible rubber arches in stock. Im not sure of the price but they looked good when i was in there over the weekend. From what i saw they can be formed to any shape arch. Give Sean a ring in sure they would be reasonably priced.

  11. Im sure many moons ago i read about using a genuine land rover bracket to fit a 2nd alternator. Do land rover produce such a bracket to fit in the air con slot on a 300tdi, if so does anybody have a part no.

    Thanks
