  1. Hi,

Ive very same problem with my 110 crewcab 52plate

Changed everything you have talked about also and still does it. Props off and uj's done and put back on in same position still wobble that shakes steering wheel, the cab everything!!!

Wondering now if props need ballancing as gear stick wobbles like hell also or engine/gearbox mounts(but cant amagine mounts would make wobble so violent)

Really P...... me off now as 20year old offroading 110 drives 150% better at all speeds..

Pls keep me informed if you find problem, i'll do the same..

    Cheers Mark

  2. Hi,

Ive read somewhere how you can erase fault codes by diconnecting battery leads and shorting together for 5secs refitting and waiting 15mins.. then turn on as normal..

Cant remember which vehicle it was. Anyone else heard this or know the pos pitfalls from doing this???

    Cheers

  3. Did 75K in ours and engine had injector problems once but that was it. It's a bit gutless in the RR, but is OK for most driving, as it's detuned and is carrying around an extra 1000Kgs compared to most BMW's.

Went through 3 sets of front diffs/halfshafts in that time, although this is now cheaper to fix with Ashcroft's coupling shafts.

Also look out for water leaks in rear wheel well. Too much water in there and you'll blow all of your sat nav and comms electronics which is expensive to replace. Fortunately all of the above and more were under warranty for me and I sold it on when it was 3 1/2 years old.

    Cheers

    Steve

Cheers for info... one i'm looking at has fault with audio/satnav and being told it just needs resetting at landrover??? seems to come on and work but muted and not display anything..

also suspension sittting at lowest setting..any ideas

I'm getting it at right money but not sure how big these problems are

    cheers

  4. Hi All,

Is there any known faults/ probs with new shape 02 rangerover td6... either engines or running gear issues?

There seems to be no recalls on early ones, but generally its the 1st ones that have probs..

Whats the general thoughts on td6 engine(i know this will stir all sorts of anawers)

    Cheers in advance

    Mark

  5. cheers guys all very helpfull, i'm not sure at this stage if have the problem. i'd heard about it and trying to gather info.

i am concerned because previous owner has had it jeremy'd up to i'm told about 200bhp. it goes very nicely but am also wondering would this make this particular problem worse?? because of all extra power you find yourself with heavy right foot and prob that is reason for poor consumption(23 to gallon).

was wondering if some going where it should'nt but oil level not rising..

i know some hate td5 but its so much more pleasing than my other 200tdi, although i do have basic idea whats going on with that one!!

    thanks for everything so far

  6. Are you sure it's the engine? Could be the infamous dual-mass flywheel rattling away. Noisy at tickover, dissappears when driving. Rakeway do a replacement one-piece item.

    Pongo,

it says on there site that there one piece item could make tranmission rattle at idle... untill i read that your suggestion seemed to make sense because i've had 3stage upgrade and prob got about 190-200bhp..

Does anyone else have any ideas bout these dual mass versas single flywheels on uprated engines...

    Cheers

  7. Are you sure it's the engine? Could be the infamous dual-mass flywheel rattling away. Noisy at tickover, dissappears when driving. Rakeway do a replacement one-piece item.

Had not thought of that, could that be why when on the move and on and off accelerator(ie like junctions and hold ups in the traffic) it also occurs.

Thinking bout it there is alot of vibration at 3/4 revvs when accerlrating up through each gear

  8. kangeroo thing - let the clutch up slowly from standstill without touching the accelerator, when the truck is moving then accerlerate. it kangaroos if you are intermittent on the accelerator as the anti stall comes on and off with each pedal press.

When you say rattle - i take it its a different rattle to any other td5 at tickover? they do make a different noise those td5!

the noise seems louder now than when i got it. wonder'd if not knowing td5 very well if tappets or something needed adjusting or if fuel pump would make the clacking noise..

  9. Hello all,

    2002 td5 defender 65k on clock

engine rattle on tick over that goes if pick the revs up alittle. also when on the move and not putting engine under load ie like when easin on and off peddle at any speed you noticably hear this annoying rattle. pretty sure its not anything loose more to do with engine. other than that drives very nicely although does the kangaroo thing that seems to happen when peddle not sure how much your gonna press it...

any ideas lads or lasses(in fact)

    cheers

  10. Assuming you are running 32 inch tyres with std diffs and your transfer box is 1:410, the 85mph in 5th = 3437 rpm ............. if your transfer box is 1.222 then 85mph in 5th = 2980 rpm.........

    :)

    Ian

Interesting.. label has come off transfer box but had thought it is 1:410 as defender. Would you think 1:222 would be better than gkn overdrive?

    Any ideas on engine issuse?

  11. I like my Td5 so much, Im thinking of getting rid of the V8 monster and getting another TD5 and or a TD5 disco.

If you have only had it two weeks, did it come from dealer or was it private?

Also if it has the fearn goodies, why not take it to them for a once over? might be cheaper in the long run.

IMHO the oily ECU things affected mainly earlier vehicles (might be wrong on this, but My 2002MY has not been affected with this.

I find my 110 is particular on the diesel, had two fill ups at a well known supermarket and it ran like a dog, then when I thought it was about to croak (poor running, even cut out twice) a fill up at a total garage mad it run like properly again.

Hi, i think your right about how good they are i bought it private. Runs really well again now but would just like to know why it done it and if i travel along at 85 again which it done with no effort at all is it going to harm something. Wondering if because its got cat fitted on down pipe if thats causing trouble as i must have loads more pressure or maybe egr valve restricting too much and that was the loud bang and then foul running briefly..

    Cheers

  12. Welcome to the forum Skid...

    First thing to check.

With the ignition off, remove the drivers seat base and seat box panel.... then unplug the red plug from the ECU.

    Is it covered in oil??

This is one of the most commom problem areas on a Td5 and can cause the problems mentioned. The fix is relatively inexpensive and easy to do.

    Ian

Hi, does the ecu have black and red connectors? Red connector no oil at all and outer sleeve of the bunch of wires is cut back...how would oil travel down? the sleeve or the wires?

  13. Hi all this my 1st post....

I have 52 black double cad ltd with 64k on clock full service history and only had it 2 weeks.

Not checked it out properly yet but was told had Jeremy Faern remap ecu and larger intercooler and adjustments done. It is very powerfull and pulls like a train in any gear even up hill, am very pleased!!! 3 times more power than my old 200tdi play tool..

Took for 100 mile run yesterday and didnt miss a beat doing constant 70 untill after getting caught in traffic and then picking pace up too 85 for 20 mins or so. Felt smoother at this speed transmission wise pos wheel balance etc but obvisiously noisier. When quite loud bang followed by miss running and temp gauge needle shooting from where always sits to off hot side and flicking back and fourth for 5 seconds or more... I slowed right down too 50 needle went back too normal position engine ran as should again. I waited till had chance to stop as was on M25 then checked engine for any obvious trouble, water and oil as should be. Continued on and 4hrs later done return 100 mile journey at 75 with no mishaps..

Any ideas as would like to know what caused short foul running and needle flicking..

    Any ideas would be great..

    Cheers Skid
