  1. ^^^^

Anyone know this as fact to support the above - it do ring a bell now YC has mentioned it ?

I saw a set of these today, not that wonderfull in terms of bump / rebound

strength compared with OMEs, so am leaning (again) that way

    Nige

the story i got from david at llama4x4 when ordering some bits was.............

terrafirma asked gwyn if he could send a sample challenge shock mount to them so they could inspect it and then he would be their supplier of them... so they went and got some chinese firm to copy their free sample!!.. bit cruddy on gwyn but good business sense from them!

terrafirma +5" shocks cost me £120 for all four.. i hammered them every time i went out off road and they were great as far as i was concerned.. but i am not doing challenges or competitions..

  2. Oooooooooooooo :D

Missed that, that is really positive as said pick up = Never made

    You may be OK

There is also the "Don't poke the sleeping beatie unless you have to" view

Could you get a note post sale saying it was looked at by XXX / DVLA etc / any paperworj re this

/ and changed to pickup, and then that plus log book saying pickup would be 99% there ?

    Nige

as said i just found the one letter saying the dvla would like to inspect the vehicle.. and nothing else apart from the log book reads discovery pickup..

i am going to send the log book off for a colour change this week anyway as canary yellow aint my thing!! will see if anything comes back off that...

am just curious if it has been done properly or not as i might sell it when it is done and dont want any come backs off it..

  3. there was very little floor left.. inside the cab or in the back.. the only thing that has not been plated is the transmission tunnel and the upper part of the bulk head... i am confident this body will not rust again in the next 5 years at least!!

i shall print a letter off to post to the dvla asking them to confirm that the vehicle is a legit pick up as it says on the log book and if it does need an sva then so be it..

as i have never had to sva or iva or whatever they are calling it this week i will assume it is just a more advanced mot type test which i am 300% sure it will pass with the work that has gone into this car!

  4. No you can't

Any Q plate has to keep that number forever

Nothing is tranferable onto a Q

and a Q can't be transferred to anything else

V5s for Q always state no transferable number

and other numbers can also be marked this way to, but for

    differing reasons

    Nige

but its not on a q plate.... and i thought that q plates are no longer issued.... so why is everyone harping on about q plates??

  5. i have just bought a bobtail discovery off ebay...

it is a yellow 2 door discovery pick up on the log book...

when i asked the bloke i bought it off if it had had an sva he said yes we did all that stuff when it was built,,,

he also said it had no rust on it and it had sailed through mot,s and it would pass another with ease!

when i got it back to the workshop (had no time to give it the once over when i got it) the inner wings pulled out by hand the sills were kicked off and when the soaking carpet was ripped out there was no floor!! and a couple of nice fist sized holes in the chassis!!

anyway i thought sod it with nothing better to do i chopped all the rust out of it and started welding some nice thick metal sheets where the inner wings and floors are supposed to be and some meaty box section sills on it and its nearly finished.

but it made me think.. has this had an sva.. he lied about the rot!! and he has been getting it mot tested about 40 miles from his house (did an online mot check) and it has never failed...more than dodgy!!

i have found one letter from the d.v.l.a. from 2005 asking to bring the vehicle to them to be inspected as he had requested to change the log book to a pick up....

how do i find out if it is legit or not??

and a pic of what the rusty old thing did look like!

  6. balls to them!! my neighbours complained when i had 5 landies on the drive.. some scrap with no wheels and 2 on the road..taxed mot and insured of course!! and my work van.. and the fact that i used to do last minute repairs/ modifications on the front of a sunday morning before play days at 7am!! the council bloke never even came up the drive as it looked like a gypos house!! dont get jehovas or people selling stuff at the door either!!!

  7. going to newark tomorrow.... got about 20hours of finishing to do to our cars though!! (we were going to billing but newark was half the price!!)

is anyone else not ready yet??

watch out for the 2 green discoverys running 35s (disco 1 and a disco 2) and an old blue disco running 2 alloys and 2 steelies!!

  8. chassis numbers are a size of stamp you cant buy.. (think its 9mm) when a mate got his hybrid s.v.a tested the d.v.l.a fella told him just to stamp his new galvo chassis up himself with the nearest thing he could get!!

we shall now wait for everyone to say it is a ringer/stolen or in need of an s.v.a...

  9. i am there!! big cos is in convoy with me.. we are making good progress on his car now! it moved under its own steam today!! should be at least one more with us maybe 2 if our other mate will get his tight fist in his pocket!!

  10. way too technical for me... but.. i lifted my disco 200tdi 5" on the suspension and the prop used to catch on the bolts at the transfer box end... it smashed the transfer box to bits!!

lesson learnt! replaced the box and put one of the td5 double cardan props on with an adaptor flange and hey ho it works!
